Ventilation System??

okay so i need to vent. I am very frustrated.. I am an idiot when it comes to cars. I am a and i suck. I love my max but am having second thoughts on why i have it. I mean wouldn't all of you like to have a 4th or 5th gen more than a 3rd. I mean there's alot more options for them, they look alot nice, and there MUCH faster. I mean, whats so great about a 3rd gen. Are we all just too poor that we can't get 4th gens.?

Another thing. Whats up with the oil leaks... I mean I've spent 1000 already fixing it up and now I get an estimate from a friend and he says its severe and it would be better to lift the engine out and go in and clean everything up. $600.

Believe me, I want to drive around town and people be like "OMG, What kinda car is THAT!?" And they are amazed that a car can look that good. I like to represent the max to the fullest. Our car is way better than any other. So i Guess my questions are:

1. Why the 3rd Generation?
2. Should i keep my car?(Is it worth it in the long run or should i just pay for it right now and get a 4th that will last longer and outperform my 3rd gen, and actuallly have decent bodykits and options???)

Thank you all and please click reply and say something....

Haters welcome

All help is appreciated...

3rd gen because:

I like the looks

I like the performance

I like the insurance (compared to my old TSi)

I like dumbfounding honduh and SHO owners who think I'm a joke

I like the price...2,900 for 190 ponies and 4 doors.

You will never know the beauty of the 3rd gen Maxima until you own a VE. Sure the 4th gen has more mods, but so do civics and integras, does that make them better?

I like my car and like to be different, I also like it when people think this old 4 door isnt going to do much.

well for one, the VGs will last practically forever if properly maintained. some guy have over 500k on his original vg. that's pretty damn impressive to say the least.

why do i have a 3rd gen? my uncle gave it to me. plain and simple. there's too many 4th and 5th gen in houston, and it takes a long while to see a nice 3rd gen. as for the mods for other gens, there's more demand for them and companies are answering their call. how many people you know are willing to put thousands of dollars in a 9+ year old car?

and if you want a 4th gen, by all means get one if it pleases you.

1. why the 3rd gen? in my opinion it is the only 4dr sports car. I've had 2 3rd gens and had no desire to own any other maxima. my dad had a 2001 max for a while, and it seemed to refined, the engine was too quite. didnt quite feel like you were actualy driving the car, more like it was driving you. the 3rd gen has a nice feeling to it. also imo a 4th gen looks kinda cheezy when you seem them all hooked up with a body kit.

2. i've spent well more than 1600 on my car as of late, and i didnt even think twice. i had the money for the repairs, so i went ahead and did it. my current max used to be owned by me dad, and he bought it new. the only probs he had to do was a new clutch and waterpump. seems the age is starting to catch up, but hell its still a damn reliable car.

This thread went from ventilation to "why we love our 4dsc".

Personally, my car is fast. It's cheap and it's an auto that always surprises everyone I encounter. The best is when someone disrespects the 4dsc, then I have to let them know the VE wrath.

Thanks dude. I just bought them. I either get compliments from people who know their **** and they tell me they are tight. Or I get ricer/bling wannabes that say they suck. So when you tell me you like them, I know you know your **** keep pimpin dude.

I like your wheels, too, Dmontzsta.

I hate shiny "bling" wheels. They will be gone or made antique soon, just like these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6755

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=43956

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=43954

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=43954

I think those were all the "killer wheels" to get at one time or another.

Most of those "bling bling" idiots (usually driving Accords) would prefer big, shiny wheels that weigh 40lbs each.

LXL, I would consider selling your car and buying a VE, if you like the 3rd gen body style. Every car has it's quirks.

Drive a 4th gen. In my opinion, they aren't as sporty (in stock form) and you tend to see more of them. You can get more mods for a 4th gen and it's still a great car.

I am a fan of the 5th gen, but they are kind of spendy still. I may get one in a couple of years. My 3rd gen is our "second car." My wife drives our Infiniti QX4 and we don't have money for a spendy second ride.

I was faced with this same dilemma last fall - I was faced with $1800 in a trans rebuild plus tires, broken exhaust studs, Bose stereo shot, and other maintence items too numerous to list. I looked at and drove 4th generatioin Maximas. Ditto for the (then) new 2003 Maxima. Checked new/used BMW 3xx and 5xx series.

And you know what? When all was said and done, I just plain LIKED my '90 SE better as a all around car. I'm the original owner, and reviewing the history, It was obvious that this was by far the best car I'd ever owned. I'm a big fellow, and felt claustraphobic in most of those cars: not just over room, but gadgeted up styling in the newer Nissans seemed to contribute to the feeling.

From your picture, it looks like you've got a very well maintained car. If it were me, I'd hang onto it. Trying to upgrade to a used 4th Gen in tricky - people tend to sell problem cars, and keep those that aren't. If you buy new, you're looking at a $30,000 Price tag or more for anything worth having. And that becoming over $40 - $50,000 by the time the loan is paid out. Dropping $2,000 into your current Max doesn't seem so bad looked at that way. Heck, you could trade up and still be faced with that much in overdue maintainence without any 'big' problems.

You can drastically reduce your future costs on your MAX by picking up a service manual (Nissan preferred) and trying some DIY starting with the simpler stuff. We all learn by doing; and there's lots of material on this forum to help. Sharp & hard working members here have figured out fixes and solutions that Nissan will never ever know.

Yeah things like that encourage me to keep my MAX (VG)... thought mine would goto hell when I got it at 270K KM's (or 169K Miles)... but from what I understand with the proper maintenance, and normal driving, these car's will last for quite sometime.

I am in agreement with most here.
I purchased my 89 Max GXE new and up until recently, I never had much to do.
Recently a variety of problems began to rear their head and the thought was... uh, is it time to say bye, bye?
After looking around at the marketplace, listening to the feedback of the members here, and checking my $ in bank account (did I mention getting grease under my fingernails following the great support docs), I came to realize that this car is a timeless winner.
The 89 Max has a classic styling, whose design transitioned previous generations of cars into today's distorted look. Its beauty still looks fresh.

When traveling out of town over the last few years, I had opportunity to rent cars that I thought would be fun to drive, and many were. Getting off the plane and jumping into my max cockpit at the airport, I was never let down by my ride.

RMAX54 is right. I had almost exactly the same issues as he did, (still have the stud prob) but I decided to go ahead with the repairs. Also, like him, I know the history of the car since new. Been a little rough this month absorbing the costs (see the "shift_money hole" post) but in the long run, I think it will work out. Also good point about the manual. Get one, and try to fix things yourself. Lots of help and info available here as well. Believe me, it will save you thousands of $... and, NO CAR PAYMENT

I think the 3rd gen is the best looking of all the Maximas except for the 5th generation. It has such a nice body shape, it's boxy, but not too boxy. It's just a perfect shape I think.

Also, it has been argued right here on these forums that the 4th gen's handling is no where near as sporty as the 3rd gen's. I think the 4th gens are ugly(unmodified). The 3rd gen is a good size too, definitely not too big and definitely not too small.

I really like the rear end of the 3rd gen. The center reflector and tail lights make for one sexy looking car. The 4th gen in my opinion is a plainer looking car(stock). I do however like the 5th gens they are very sexy.

I didn't think much of 3rd Gen(stock) when I first started seeing them. But it really grows on you and you realize that it is a great looking car especially when lowered and modified. It may not go from 0-60 in 3 seconds but why would that be neccessary if you are not racing? It is definitely a peppy car and has plenty of power for your everyday needs. I'm so happy I bought mine and even happier that I found this place
