Some Tiny Problems

Ok, my car runs great and everything is in perfect working order but there are just 2 minor annoyances that weren't there when I first bought the car.

First off, when the car is running and I'm in park, whenever I press the brake down you can hear the shift release line(?) clicking. If you hold your hand on the shifter as you press the brake down, you can also feel it clicking. Only happens in park. Doesn't affect anything in any way, it's just that you hear it click. I was just wondering if there is any easy fix for this.

Secondly, when I turn my blinker on, and start turning in that direction, you can hear the steering wheel clicking as I am turning it. So for example if I pull the blinker lever down to make a left turn, and I start turning the steering wheel left, it will click a few times. And once again, I'm just wondering if there's any fix for this.

So that's about it. Other then that she runs great! Y-Pipe has a big hole in it, but that is soon to be replaced by a Warpspeed. Can I ask one more thing though? Why is there a flex section on Y-Pipes? Why can't they make the whole thing out of metal? And shouldn't they use a better material for the flex section so it won't get holes burnt into it(or whatever causes the holes)? Just curious.

Thanks guys!

Thats normal...you are going to hear the Park/shift solenoid and you are going to hear the steering wheel hit the signal release clip in the colum. Its not just your car its in almost every car, except for a few luxury cars I've sold and rode in. u can try adding some foam padding under the dash...but I would be careful of doing that cause of it may increase the chance of a fire hazard. To me your cars sounds like my 91SE before it was totalled and every other 3rd Gen I've been in and almost every car I've been in. somethings we just have to learn to live with.

They make a flex in the Y-pipe so the engine can flex on its motor mounts and won't damage the exhaust via the torque

I don't think it's really normal because like I said when I bought the car it didn't make any of those noises. It just started making those noises at around 102k miles.

But yeah I guess I just have to live with them. It's no biggie

Thank you though.

Sounds like the only problem you have with your car is the hole in your y-pipe. As stated, your two other problems are normal noise. Maybe you just never notice these noises before. And as to why the y-pipe has a flex pipe, it's to allow the eng/exhaust system to flex (twist) when to throttle up without prematurely and constantly breaking the exhaust pipe. Which is what would happen if you ran a straight pipe (no flex pipe)

Yeah bro...those are "wear & tear" parts and they get more use than the brake and gas pedals...so ur gonna noisy over the years. Just be glad they work...cause when the park/shift solenoid goes bad you can't shift out of park by just using the break pedal...u gotta then press that button behind the gear shift...and that can be more annoying that the noise ur hearing....so smile cause thats one less thing u will have to fix in the future
