Ground wire kit

I have to say, I'm fairly pleased with the results. I haven't had the time to do the alternator one yet. But to confirm with Matt's results, the car idles smoother, revs a little better, doesn't "pop" nearly as much when you let off the gas( I have a fart can muffler for now). Best thing is I can break traction with my sticky 245-45-17 BFG Comp TAs easier now(1st gear, no clutch dumping). I do think I picked up some hp at least in the mid-range. 1st gear @ about 4,000, stomp gas pedal, tires break loose

I'll chime if the gas mileage is better later on also.

So if you are thinking about getting Matt's ground wire kit, I recommend it. It "looks" like he uses a slightly thicker wire than some other kits. And from what I see, none of the kits have a big arsed 4awg for the battery ground. None of the kits are VE30DE specific anyway or soldered??

One thing is the VE30DE has a direct ignition system. I remember doing my engine swap some time ago and forgetting to reconnect one little ground on the manifold. When I touched it to the manifold, I could see a "pop". So I know these little tiny ign ground wires must have a big job. It's pretty important to properly ground these engines because of our DIS.

So, Jeff... sounds like overall, an inexpensive, but functional upgrade!

Install is pretty easy. If you know where your grounds are anyway it is. Take a look at Matt's pictures.

Yes. I think it's a decent cheapie mod.

Maybe piggie backing the battery to chassis. There might be a few other grounds way under the car but I don't really think so. The only other thing would to beef up your headlight grounds but that's another kit

Yeah, i did this a week ago. Noticed a smoother idle and more throttle response while cruising over 75mph in OD. As wierd as it sounds, it's still a worthy mod.

Just for the record Aaron, you are refering to Matt's ground kit, correct? Jeff when you mentioned that engine "pop" I swear my engine was the only engine doing that, good to know it's in the family

can you describe the pop alittle better or does this just have something to do with fart style exhaust

guessing it's with fart style exhaust...

if i rev my engine and let off, you'll hear a slight 'pow pow' as the engine slows back down.

I believe the sputtering/popping noise is caused by going from a higher engine speed, to closing the throttle, which is reducing the speed, so you get the first few exhaust strokes pushing out alot more air compared to the rest of the engine, and the difference makes the small noise. Then maybe the gounds are just creating a more complete burn? I'm not completely sure.

I'm referring to the kit that I made myself. It's virtually the same thing.

*edit* oh let me say that Matt's price of $60 shipped is a good price. If you buy this kit else where, you will get less quality wires and terminals and you don't get as many grounds. Plus, this is made perfectly for the VE.

Also, I spent several hours driving around town trying to find the nessecary parts. Stereo shops, Auto parts stores, Home Depot. Once I found all the parts after a couple hours, then I had to make them. Which wasn't a walk in the park. It took a couple more hours to get everything sorta and perfectly matched to what I wanted. Then I had to solder them, which takes a very hot and expensive iron, which 99% of people don't have. After I had the wires all ready to go, I installed them in my car in less than one hour. In other words, Matt isn't charging much for labor considering I spent $35 on parts ALONE. Matt is hooking people up and unless you want to spend all day making it yourself, you should get Matt's ground kit. You KNOW you are getting quality stuff b/c Matt wouldn't have it any other way.
