Audio in and out
Audio in and out
Hi all,
My audio system suffers from an intermittent condition......on again / off again from one of the front speaker [ the drivers side ]. The original Bose head unit was changed to a JVC unit a few years back and worked well up until recently. Up until now I was thinking it was a shorted wire, but now am questioning the front speaker/amp module in the door.
I tested the speaker alone with a battery and it seems fine but am not sure how to check amp?
Is there a way to determine if the front speaker amp is at fault?

I kinda had the same problem in my 91 SE when I changed my head unit but not the speakers. Some head units go bad after a while hooked up to the Bose speakers. In my case, they are something like 1 ohm speakers and your head unit, which wants 4ohm speakers probably is trying to keep up with the impedance.
i think all the bose speakers are self amplified, and are make to take a high level signal of the bose amp... around 5 to 10 watts, when you get a new reciever the internal amp of the cdplayer is like 45 watts and you are over loading the bose amp by sending this much signal to it. it is kinda like turning a regular rca preamp amp to .3 volt, and sending it 6 volts of signal.
my thinking(flawed perhaps?) was that the impedance was not an issue if the audio from the newer JVC head unit was still being routed thru the bose amplified speaker?
Since I started my repair of this system, it has been an almost constant headache
:. This system can create some really awesome sound on a good day
, but a boatload of confusion
on others. It is enough to make a guy want to go out and buy a Walkman.
If there is a member of our community capable of helping me sort this mess out (Online,Offline or Landline)it would be appreciated
