Custom DVD/TV install

Well here is my 3rd generation tv/dvd install. It has been about 3 weeks of work. Took a while, my first time:

Here is where I moved the lighter:

Look at my cardomain page for more pics.

Thanks to everyone who helped in the decision process and for wiring help.

Doesn't look bad at all from the pics. And that relocated cigarette lighter actually looks pretty stock, as if it's always been there. Looks pretty good there too... might have to consider that myself just for the hell of it

Well E, I'm selling my "old" in-dash DVD really cheap if you're interested. How cheap you ask? So cheap, it's IN-sane!!! PM me if you (or anyone else, for that matter) wants to know about it.

94M@X - Nice job. Especially the glovebox thing you've got goin on there... I got 2 questions for ya:
  1. Is that a slight gap I see on the right-hand side where the trim piece meets the monitor? Just wondering if fitment was an issue or not and how did you get around it, if at all.
  2. How is that DVD player working out for you? Does it skip a lot? And will it play ALL the formats tou've thrown at it (cdr, cdr-w, mp3, etc...) or does it have issues with any particular format? I just got the exact same one, but haven't installed it just yet.

1 - The gap is all the way around the head unit, because I dont have it all the way in yet. I have to free up a little space in the back (lots of wires) I have hesisant to pull the whole thing out again.

2 - The dvd player hasnt skipped yet, and does play all audio and video formats (DVD, VCD, MP3), but the audio for mp3 playback SUCKS I dont know if its a setting i've missed, but it is horrible. Dosent really matter to me cause I have the Alpine hu.

I will post more pics once the hu is flush. You cant really see from the pics, but I also need to clean up the glove compartment some. I am going to silicone the area between clear plastic and the cut. There is space there now and its look unfinished.

Thanks for the feedback

Sorry, misread that last post. The gap by the monitor is because use I am a ******* and when I origionally bought the hu it didnt fit properly so I thought it would be a bright idea to shave down the trim to make it fit. It was a stupid move. I am going to have to go to the junkyard to replace that entire pannel. The montor would fit without any gaps otherwise.

Now, this is a mod that I will defintly take on. That is a great, functional addition to the interior. Good job.

Can I ask you something though? Just today I told my friend that I was interested in adding a DVD player in the dash just like that. Then he asked if it would be angled up and I said no it just goes straight into the dash. Then he made a good point on how that would be a bad viewing angle. Unless you are slouching down in the seat or a very short person, you would be looking at the screen from the top down. So my question is, is there any way to angle it up, or do they make ones that are angled up that are still "in dash"?

I had the same setup in my old Max and you don't have to slouch down to see it. unless you sit 5" from the steering wheel LOL angling isn't really necessary(as long as its a TFT screen).
