Fixing Power Locks, Lock Timer Box Tutorial

Hi,
I fixed my power locks a few weeks back with help from information from this forum. I wanted to give back so I documented the fix, with pictures. It is tempoarily on my friends website, until I get my server up(probably next week). I think it is straight forward and complete but feedback is welcome, especially from others who have done this before. I still need to resize one of my pics as it is 1.2Mb, and I will do this shortly.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers,
Matthew

nice writeup, but I suggest a little more practice on soldering techniques before trying to do it on more stuff.. screwdrivers shouldn't be necessary. buy a roll of solder wick- they're about $1 at Rat Shack.

use it to remove the old solder, then simply re-flow the solder on the joints.

FYI, that's not the only connection that goes bad on the baord. it's the most often one I see, but not the only one. I've had some boards with at many as 10 bad joints in them.

Thanks, Great input. I will take all the input I get and add it to the tutorial as appropriate. I will wait until the end of the week to post an updated version(and remove the 1.2Mb jpeg).

Cheers,
Matthew

Also Matthew, in your write-up, you said,

There are some wires, which on my 92 GXE were not connected to anything...
I believe those are for the diagnostic port. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I see from the pictures.

yup.. they're for CONSULT.... that's what the dealer plugs the scanner tool into so they can dink with the ECU.

Yea, I forgot the step about unscrewing the diag plug, and rescrewing it to the lower dash. I will add that.
There were also 2 other wires which were not plugged into anything. Are they also for diag or the ECU? They were both large wiring harnesses if I remember correctly.

Cheers,
Matthew

the plugs near the hood release with the big rubber boots over them are diagnostic ports to hook up to a CONSULT system....
