racing rpm's w/ acceleration

When I accelerate my rpm's race up then back down. Even when using cruise control this will happen. What are possible causes? I just replaced fuel filter & checked air filter. The problem is progressively getting worse. Used Techron cleaner when problem first started, but did not help. Any suggestions?

o.k., it's a 5 spd, when i shift & attempt to accelerate the rpm's race up to 3000+, but w/ no speed gain, then rpm falls back to normal & then it will accelerate. Does this w/ every shift.

Getting a new car is not what I wanted to hear, would like suggestions as to what the problem could be...

it's time for a new clutch.
if you're not going too crazy with mods, then buy an OEM replacement clutch. DO NOT buy the Key Value clutch- it's the only one from the dealer that comes as a "kit". they're crap. they suck.

you could also go with Exedy or LuK for stock type replacements.
If you want to do more mods and get a more agressive one, look at LuK and Exedy's performance models, or the ACT street disc.

you will need to resurface your flywheel too. For a stock type replacement, just resurfacing yours is fine. If you want to go fast, then I highly suggest buying a Fidanza flywheel from me for $350. (retails at $495)

Just incase you werent convienced by these guys, it is your clutch going out (assuming its happening when your foot is not on the clutch pedal). Same thing happened in my dads 2000 Maxima. Clutch had a hard life, car has about 80,000 miles on it, was replaced at about 76,000 IIRC. first it was just small jumps, mainly in 4th and 5th gear, then it slowly made its way down the gears, and sooner into the power band.
