MY BABY FINALLY LIKES TO STOP AGAIN!!!!

it was the rear brakes needed to be adjusted
so now i have a completly redone brake system all for an adjustment
now its off to the muffler shop to have my exhaust redone,
fly money fly!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey give me some advice my brake pedal goes pretty far down before actually stopping. My dad and I replaced the drums and that fixed it but after a few days the pedal goes far down again. wtf? They stop the car just fine, I just like it better when I barely I have to press the pedal to make it stop the car.

 

dude i replaced everything that has to do with my brakes so the prob could be anywhere.
1) check the rear wheel cylinders if they leak there could be air in the lines, if there is a leak repair the wheel cylinders then bleed the lines.
2) master cylinder??? could be the problem
3) or you could do all this and waste money just to have the rear shoes adjusted, take it to a shop and like 40 bucks you'll be good

if it feels spongy, im thinkin air in the lines, or busted master cyl.

 

step 1, bleed the brakes.
step 2, adjust the parking brake.

 

Good to see you finally got everything figured out! It's usually always a simple thing that someone's forgetting.. and adjusting that parking brake takes forever if you don't want to tear everything apart and adjust it by hand.

 

Dude - trust me, you needed to replace your master cylinder. Wasn't a waste of money & it's probably the first time it's been done since car was new. However, your secondary problem was badly adjusted rear shoes & your mal-adjusted grease monkey friend...

Jaguax - check rear shoes. If worn, replace. If wheel cylinders seeping, replace & do both sides. Check front pads & calipers. Check flexible hoses to make sure no bulges - get someone to stand on the brake pedal. Bleed brakes, adjust park brake - lever shouldn't have any more than 3 - 5 "clicks". If still poor pedal feel, master cylinder.

 

oh.. FYI.. the parking brake lever is supposed to have 8-10 clicks according to the nissan FSM.

Yeah, 3-5 clicks is my starting point - you should start to feel some resistence after 3 clicks & park brake should hold at 5-6 clicks in nominal use. The other 2-4 clicks is the extra to hold on a steep hill.
Most safety inspectors here would fault (but not fail) the park brake lever if nothing happened for first 4-6 clicks - as it's a bit disconcerting for nothing to happen over that range .It's also an emergency brake & most people exert the most force in the first part of the movement - one of the most basic laws of physics.

Nissan recommends:
"a force exerted on the park brake lever of 44lbs (195N) which is equivalent to"

7-8 clicks for drums
8-9 clicks for discs
6-8 for ABS

44lbs is a reasonable amount of force - for holding car on a steep hill etc.

Personally, if your park brake lever goes up to 10 clicks in normal use, you're rear shoes need adjusting - and you'll end up stretching cables over a period of time.
