exhaust...

Well, I just ripped my stock y-pipe into two pieces, the front and the back with the flex section. I did this going over a speed bump at speed. dumb Idea.

when I went to take it out I noticed a hole in my cat and every pipe out of and into my muffler was almost rusted out...

SO. I have to get a bunch of 2.5" piping and crush bend it to fit untill I can get money. no cat, no resonator, and a generic muffler with no tips till I can get money. same goes with my Y-pipe, have to make one and make a flanged connector for it to connect to the "cat"-back.

if you do it like that yourself you could proboly do a ypipe back exhaust for around 200$ which is very cheap and proboly alot better performance than stock good luck

if you did that much damage you might have also done some damage to your studs. they brake easy enough already, getting that kind of force on them surely broke some.

That sucks I've never had a problem taking speed bumps at speed or higher (then again the struts hate me for it), thats moreso on my old black car, and I got out of that habbit in order to prevent needing new struts

how much more does it cost for the mandrel bends vs. the crush bends? Also what are you going to do about the flex section?

I didn't actually hit the speed bump, I think the front flexed and just yanked it out. it was already leaking horribly.

mandrel bends would make it about 400.

I'm getting all the materials for 120 including muffler. the reason it's so cheap is that I'm doing all the bending and welding myself.

a lot of work, but when your on a budget like this you can't be picky

Jebus man! Where'd you do that at?
Those mountains out by the Thurston bus station?

BTW: I got my entire catback done for $120 minus muffler at Eugene Muffler and brake... Corner of 11th and chambers. Steve does great work. Plus you can get a 2.5" turbo style muffler at the Knecht's on 11th for like 15 bucks from the bin out front. That should hold you for a good while.

naw, it was the little-but-long ones in the Q street Safeway parking lot. I think those thurston ones would have done it too though

thanks for the tip man, did they mandrel bend it or crush bend?

Are those Knecht's mufflers any good? I want decent quality you know, not just like cracker jack parts even though it is a stop-gap measure till I get more money.

yeah those'll get ya too

It's crush bent, 2.5" pipe. mild steel? I can't really remember.

The muffler is a flowtech afterburner....ran me ~$50 at autozone. Steve just ran a plain 2.5" extension from the outlet to the bumper until my tips came about a week later. I got the tips (hooker headers classic european) from jegs.com for ~$48.

as far as the mufflers from knechts.... you usually get what you pay for, but sometimes they have some good stuff out in the bargain muffler bin. Also, unless you like the volume of mine, I'd reccomend welding in a resonator (glasspack) while he is/you are doing it. I wish I had. I'll probably take it back and have it done pretty soon. My head hurts after driving around for too long.

I got used to it...after all, mine was leaking 4 feet from my head

I like the sound of your muffler and knechts sells glasspacks for like 15, so I think I'll do that.

wanna help me put it in?

I'll help you if I can. my exhaust seems like it's gonna be a hassle though.

When do you want to do it?

I guess we could take my exhaust out and lay it out, then bend yours to match...
that might make it a little easier.

Here's a sharp looking back chrome tip (Ractive T815B) that I just installed on my Flowmaster - chose it after looking at the 2K Max muffler with the rectangular finisher. Cost about $55 shipped from CarXpressions.com.

I was going to bend it to match my current exhaust. It's laying out under my car right now waiting to be traced

take note of the angles, then it will be much easier for you when it comes time to mandrel bend, plus if you want to tweak something, it makes it alot easier.
