Which should I get? 92 Maxima Se or 91 NX2000!!!
Was finally able to get rid of my Celica so now I can get one of these 2 cars. I found a 92 Maxima SE with 203,000 miles for only 1500 bucks going to look at it later today. Guy has all service records for it. Are Maxima's known to run longer than that if taken care of? The NX2000 I found has new engine with 10k miles, new brakes, struts, clutch, belts, water pump and tires body has 137k on it they're asking 2100. Any insite would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Thanks.

maxima reliablility? let's see here....my '89 maxima has 158,xxx miles and runs pretty much like brand new, and midoriryu had an '89 with 406,508 miles on it that ran excellent before somebody hit it. so these babies run forever if you take good care of them. nissan

personally i don't care what the car is...I'd never buy anything with 200K+ on it....but for $1500 I guess go with it.
but if the NX has the SR20(not sure if the 91 did)...well I say no competition....

EDIT: seems that the 91 does have the SR20...if it was me I'd be all over that NX!!!

its up to you if you want performance without an engine swap id get the max if you put an sr20det in the nx it would be very fast and easy to make faster with bolt ons but then again the max in my eyes looks better and is more convienant

If I could, I'd personally try to get BOTH! Here's why: They're going to have really different personalities from each other. Have you driven both? I haven't, but I'm willing to bet that you'll find the Maxima roomier and more comfortable, while the NX2000 is going to feel a lot lower, and more nimble and "zoomier". I recall a post I read a while back were someone compared the driving experience between his modified Maxima and a stock 240sx and he said the 240sx was a lot sportier feeling.
I was reading some of my old, old car magazines recently and noticed some road test results. (Goes gets magazine) According to Motor Trend, they got 0.82 g's and 63.3 mph in the slalom for the Max, versus 0.88 g's and 69 mph for the NX2000. Looking at the numbers for other high performance cars of that era I can tell you that the NX's numbers are impressively high. Most of the time I see skidpad numbers of around 0.8 for the Max in other mags, give or take a couple hundredths depending on summer/all season tires. The Maxima was a tad faster in acceleration runs. From actually driving my Maxima (stock) I can say I wished it had at least a bit more roll stiffness (maybe a lot more ) and I wished the stock tires weren't such a tall, poofy size. I think most new cars nowadays can probably corner just as fast as the Maxima SE could back then... I feel pretty sure that I wouldn't confuse the driving experience with a "true" sports car.
Otherwise I don't have many complaints about the Max. The VE could use a bit more grunt on the low, low end for a V6 (under 2500) but it's got a lot of thrust if you rev it up. Handling is definitely "good" IMHO, but I guess I'm a closet corner burner at heart. Remember that it IS a very comfortable, pleasant, and fairly luxurious car to drive yourself and your buddies around in though. I don't regret buying a Maxima for a second.
Well, I hope this helped, but I think you should try driving the Max first and see how you like it. It probably feels very different from your Celica. You just have to decide what suits your driving style better. Good luck!

If you want comfort and room, buy the Maxima. If you are looking for miles per gallon and don't need the room, get the NX. Really it depends on your needs. If you have kids or take on a lot of passengers, get the Max. If you are by yourself most of the time, get the NX.
Either car you can put money into and make them handle better/go faster.
Even though I love my Max (and it's my second 92 SE 5-speed, well over 100k miles driven between them) I think I would get the NX. With a relatively new engine and all of the other stuff that was replaced, you know (barring some kind of catastrophe) it won't be needing anything for quite a few years.
I also had a Celica (88 Convertible 5-speed) that I bought for $2000 as a commuter car. I drove it until it had 230k, where it finally threw a rod.

Bah it sucks both cars were sold on the spot to the people looking at them before me. I found another 92 Maxima SE 5 Spd without leather and alot less miles 126k for $2850 going to look at that tomorrow. Should I worry about the timing chain at all at this many miles cause I just saw one on ebay with only 106k that the timing chain broke so I'm kinda worried.

Dang, Jeff.... you make it sound like you're 3 billion years old...
I know the timing chain was broke on MY max when I first got it (put a hole right thru the hood AND valve cover).
