Aaaaaaaarrrgghhhh !!

i'm startin to get really frustrated here. anyone who's had this problem can you please help me...

1991 GXE automatic - 50k on the motor - no major mods other than exhaust.

- had one dead injector - according to my regular mechanic that caused it to fail emissions.
- took to someone who works on nissans and he told me i had two dead injectors and three on their last legs. of course he tried to get me to replace all 6 but i don't have $800 sittin around or this wouldn't be an issue. other than a rough idle the car ran great - bad gas mileage from the non-working injectors, but other than that, not a single thing to complain about.
- this guy replaces the two and changes a "leaky" fuel line and a power steering hose. and for some unknown reason changed the hose that runs from the back bank valve cover to the intake with some very flexible/collapseable hose. now the car runs like SH*T big time. from a start - floored the car chirps tires off the line but before 20mph shifts immediately into 2nd then 3rd and finally 4th before 35mph. absolutely no control over the shifting other than manually shifting the auto tranny. once out of first gear there's no way to down shift other than manually. even going up hill under labor the car will not down shift! period. it also idles very poorly even worse than before the injector change.

If anyone out there ever experienced this please help with a little insight on this if you can. any and all input would be appreciated.

oh to addd another thing i had the car idling fine at 900 rpm's in park and around 700 when in gear. that is the ideal right? now after mr. monkeywrench gets his mits on it it only idled once at 700 - the rest of the time it idles around 1200 to 1400 rpm when in gear.

forst guess is your throttle position sensor.... the tranny chooses its shift points basec on the TPS numbers for one.
it will cause things to do wierd stuff like that. make sure it's plugged in first....

I doubt injectors are the problem. if it's idling smoothly, then injectors are all working. (search for "injector" in the search link at the top of the forums for lots of info there.)

being certified doesn't mean you know how to work on a car. it means you passed a test that says you know how to memorize stuff in a book.

yeah no doubt

i also own a 1st gen eclipse and in that world we refer to dealers and mechanics as SATAN since going to them is not unlike going to hell.

i feel kinda like a tool for assuming that something that simple should not have gone undone

Amen, brother. I'll take common sense and experience over a certification any day of the week...

The same goes for almost any certification. ASE, MCSE, CCA, etc.

I'll have to agree.

I was thinking TPS also, anytime you unplug the TPS your car will idle extremely high and mine would slam into gears.

On another note, do Vg Max's usually chirp on take off? (stock)

Yeah, not much, but they can provided its tuned up and the exhaust isnt leaking. I cant tell you how much of a difference it has been acceleration wise since getting that rear manifold replaced. No more stumbling off the line, just a smooth surge of power. Almost makes the $1400 Meineke ripoff worth it. :-(

Although i could get the tires to chirp if i slammed the gas down before the manifold repair (which i would not do often), that was just on a turn from a stop, which in my experience, is nothing to rave about.

my old GXE would rip the tires loose from a stop, especially with stock wheels and crappo tires. with my sticky tires on 16" wheels, they would squeal, but never really light 'em up.

uhhh, yeah... where'd that come from? something else you'd like to share?
I treat pretty much everyone the same. I pick on noobs because they ask questions without even trying to look for an answer first. I've been around for several years, and I've seen almost ALL of these posts dozens (if not hundreds) of times before, of which someone has answered many times in those posts.

the 3rd Gen Maxima platform is going on 15 years old. if anything can break on it, I'm sure it's been broken by someone that's posted on this board at one time or another, so most likely your question has already been answered. I simply try to 'encourage' people to search for it.. I may encourage with a steel-toe boot, but don't take it personally. (Dad raised me like that, and unfortunately I turned out a harda$$ like him!)

Hmmm, friday? no.. I drove through on Monday and Thursday though.

if you saw a guy sliding all over the road in the rain, then that was probably me. these tires are so freakin wide it's scary on heavy rain like that. (then again, nobody else could drive either!) I saw 4 wrecks in 10 miles on that road. people don't know how to slow the f*** down around here when it rains.
they just turn on their hazard flashers and keep driving 85... morons.
