speedo problem , anyone help ??

take a guess at this , my speedo doesnt work , and its not the gear in the tranny. When i put a new gear in , it runs for about 1 mile then strips again. I have no clue why this is happening but im guessing its something with my tranny ???? anyone got any tips for me ??

this is what happened to my max. when i bought it the speedo didnt work. i put a new gear and it stripped right away. so i gave up cause the new gear would just strip so i saved my $$$. then the bad part. 2 months ago i noticed a gear oil leak. my mechanic said my (manual) tranny is about to blow and that maybe why my speedo didnt work. a month ago my tranny went, so i had it rebuilt with a nasty clutch and so forth. after that i replaced that gear again and never had problems since. now i know when i hit 140 hehe. so technically it cost me about 2k to fix that prob lol.

oh yea, ive only had this car since january. and also my cruise control works now.

your speed sensor gear in the tranny itself is in sad shape I would bet. it's a plastic gear about 1/2" wide at the top of the main shaft. mine is going too, it cause my gear to strip out so I had it replaced, but I can't find a place to get the gear at. could you PM me with the price of just the gear please? I have been looking for about 4 months.
