On my tail lights, between the brakelights where it says maxima mine is black but I've seen others with red, is that for any special reason?

 

your talking about the large plastic piece ? i believe that
the GXE models had red and the se models up to 91 were black and all of them had red in 92-94. humm something dosent sound right what am i missing ??

 

the 89-91 SE has the black (actually dark grey) center while the GXE has red.

The 92-94 SE & GXE has a red center also but look different from the 89-91s.

Yeh I know all the SE VE's have the red panel and the SE VG's have the black. As far as gxe's go, no idea.

 

SE VG's eh? I think you mean SOHC

 

No he means 89-91 SE's with the standard VG engine have black panels and 92-94 SE's with the standard VE engine have red panels and all GXE's have red panels.

My 91SE has the SOHC VG engine the VE DOHC wasn't available until 92.

 

Could you tell me which model is better, Its not really that big a deal i'm still getting the same car 89 se,

Oh definitely stick with the black taillight model.....much better.

 

In the bigger scheme of things, that'd be the 93-94 SE 5sp unless you can't/won't drive a stick - then I'd say a 93-94 SE auto.
