i have an 89 SE 5spd with 146k. when the car is cold... i can punch it in 1st and itll start burning, and it has alot of power in every gear after. however when the car is warm and i do the same, ill floor it in 1st and it wont have much power until 2500,3000rpm. any ideas on what it is? car is bone stock.

 

well that heat soak problem affects the VE motor however im not sure if it affects the VG. the problem in the VE is the knock sensor it just gets soft over time.

Does it only happen in 1st gear? Because Maxima's need a lot to get them rolling, I usually take off from first by revving to 2300 to 2500 rpm's which gives me a good launch plus good acceleration afterward
