Painful Feeling

I purchased some Xenon fog lights for my max and it took about 10 minutes to install both of the lights. As soon as I decide to check to see it they look as well as I hope there was a problem. The fogs ween't coming on. Why? I checked the fuse box and all the fuses seemed to be ok. I am still mot sure whick one belongs to the foglights though. Before I go on a fuse rampage I check the firewall. Guess freaking what? There was no relay fuse for my foglights. I am in tears. These are my first mods that I put on the car and the relay is missing. I guess I'll have to go to the Nissan dealer and get a new relay. Does anyone know how much they run for? Or do you think I should go to the junkyard and get a relay from a max there (of course the relay will come from a fog light relay)? After I get these relays I will get a new muffler, brake rotor, shocks and springs, audio system, and a well needed tune-up. To be 17 and going through the first steps of modding it really freaking hurts.

i suggest getting that "well needed tune-up" before getting a system, etc.

That tune-up is coming before any of my other mods. I have 225K+ mileage on it. It's last tune-up was when it was made. I wish knew this because I want to exchange some words with the original owner. No work done to the car when I bought it and I, meaning my dad, put over 2000 dollars of repair in the car and I still have to put more in. But I am truly ****ed and my tune-up will come before December. The max will be with me for another 2-4 years hopefully.

IMO, do not go to the junkyard for parts like relays or switches or harnesses. i know it is a money issue, but used electrical parts are kind of like sex without protection.

yes. sorry. you know what i am saying better than i do! yes. >>>>sex without protection is great<<<< casual, fly-by-night sex can be thrilling, but you are then at higher risk --like buying used electrical parts from a junkyard!

we've *come* full-circle.

You mean wheel cylinder maybe?
Do it urself. It's a $20 part if even that (not at work so can't give exact price)
or if you got the bucks, pop for a disc swap. you won't regret it

Guess i'll have to keep a heads up for fog relay switch when i'm ready to do mines, but that won't be for awhile. Why is that you ask? Well cause my rad support is split right down the middle.

How much do you think a fog relay will run for at the dealer?

you need to call them

call parts and service. as a rule of thumb, always guesstimate that the part from a dealer will be twice the cost of what you arbitrarily may think it should be:

i once went there to get fresh new lug nut covers, unmarred, for the 90SE. i was thinking i could get a set for like maybe 100 bucks, tops --nope. they were $45 each! -for that little center lug cover that is about 6 inches wide. or less. so after tax and all of that, they would cost about $200.

a set of new anniversary edition 2001 rims, new, from the factory, are over $3000 a set, as i once looked into getting some for my 3rd gen. that plan was killed.

be prepared to have sticker shock at the dealer. this is often why many people opt to never keep a car beyond a 3 or 4 year lease. but they also don't care, nor have the time, to work on cars.

the biggest advantage of the used car lifestyle is that you have no monthly car payments with interest. in quasi-ways, you can 'beat the system,' sort of, by doing most of the work yourself or paying friends for cheap, and getting to know people who can get new parts for below cost. this will happen the deeper into the culture you go.

People who can get parts below cost are generally thieves. or obsolete stock.
But what cost are u refering to?
cost from a dealer? cost from a parts store ? or the stores actual cost?
I pay 10% over my warehouse's (where I work) cost.

right. below retail cost. i suppose "cost" refers directly to what the dealer actually pays. like car ads that say "5% over factory invoice" (which is actually a half-truth). for example, i got some new fuel injectors for like 50% off of retail cost from someone who knew someone who knew someone in the warehouse - a cash only transaction.

getting 10% over the actual wholesale cost is pretty darn good. cheap.

another thing is tires: i got a pair of $250 each Michelin Pilot H/X's for $25 each, used, with 80% tread from a tire garage specializing in bmw and mercedes dealer-only replacements: people upgrade rims to non-stock sizes and the barely-used factory issue tires are discarded. i happened upon that place by luck. now i'm "in," as the guy gave me his card. that price is nearly like thievery.

When I used to work at pepboys (ugh) I would get the takeoffs for free. saved me noney on the tires for my beaters.

Not tooo hard. cost will depend on how you buy the parts.
