Transmission or Problems????

[FONT=Times New Roman][SIZE=10]

I recently bought a used 1993 Maxima.

When you put the car into Drive, it takes a few seconds to catch, it doesn't catch right away.

The car also stalls, while driving.

Three days ago, I lost reverse. Reverse is Neutral and Neutral is 1st Gear.

What could be causing? Is the transmission going out? Or what could the problem be?

The catching problem is a worn shifter bushing, its a cheap part. Is your car an se or gxe? If its an se the stalling could be a bad ignition coil. It could also be related to the MAF or TPS.

I had the stalling problem too, where it would just cut out for a second or two while driving. All I did was unplug the MAF harness from the sensor and smash down the female connectors a bit so it would fit tighter.

sounds like your shifter bushing need to be replaced. There are two of them, they usually break then fall off. So there will be a lot of play in the tranny cable. when driving the car can easily fall out of gear. One is located above a heat shield thats above the cat. convertor. The other is loated where the cable meets the tranny.

You should also replace the tranny fluid.
