GUys have made CAIs themselves...

but I'm gonna wait for Warpspeed Performace to release theirs in a few, they are saying it will be in the mid to high $100's so a lot less than the Place Racing CAI Cattman sells!
as for making it yourslef, all I know is don't use PVC(I think thats it ) piping, its bad for the engine or something like that! Ask Andrew91SE I know he and another guy on here just made/installed one from materials they got from the hardware store!
BTW the filter hangs off the end of the pipe in the wheel well.

that hardware store guy would be me, i used sewer piping, very strong and heat resistant plastic (almost the same kind as the stock intake pipe). pvc is a very bad idea because when it gets hot, it starts to flake and the last thing you want being sucked into your engine is that. also i used a k & n filter in the end of cai. if you want to see where and how the filter is placed then go here to see pics of my cai setup.

nodoubt, your k & n filter looks like a popcharger. are they the same? how is water not pulled in through the filter? it seems like the way my popcharger is constructed, water can enter, even just a little bit. i've been considering making a CAI when it gets warmer out, but these are just some questions that i needed to clear before i actually got the materials. i'd appreciate your imput or others'. thanks.

yes it is a pop charger and no water will get in if you put behind the wheel well cover, i just had mine off cause i was too lazy to put back on. and it wont suck in any water unless you drive through a 2 foot flood.
