Need Help Asap!! Please!!
My automatic tranny on my 89 has gone from running fine to slipping in 2nd and overdrive. All in a matter of a stop. I went to work this morning with no problem. At lunch, I went to the bank with no problem. I left the bank and at the light when I took off, first was fine, the from first to second the engine reved high and didn't catch second. Third works fine. On my way home it did the same thing only in addition to that, overdrive is also slipping.
Any ideas/suggestions?
I hope I don't need ANOTHER tranny. This is my second one. The original went completely bad.

those two gears are on the same clutch band. since they suddenly went out like that, I would suspect a solenoid in the tranny instead of the clutch band itself. either way, you need to take it to a tranny shop.
explain that it was fine, even while you were driving, then you stopped one more time and the problem was there. a mechanical tranny slippage problem won't just suddenly appear like that- it's more gradual, as the parts wear out.
an electrical problem CAN be sudden like this. either that, or a passage in the valve body is blocked somehow, not letting fluid build pressure to engage 2nd gear.
Take it to the tranny shop and get their input.
