My shortened back bumper

I'm working on shortening my back bumper 2" right now, its a lot more work than I originally expected and urethane makes a lot of smoke when you cut it which in turn makes me very light headed even with a respirator. Basically I've just chopped the bumper up a whole bunch and tack welded it with a plastic welder. I just set it on the car for the pics, that is why its all out of line, it actually fits as good as the stock bumper. Should be complete and in primer sometime next month.

I feel that the stock bumpers are hideously long. I want to make my car look like a luxury car (Mercedes, BMW, ect). I noticed they all have gigantic wheelbases, Well I can't exactly change this on my car so I am just making the car as short as I can by shortening both the bumpers. Plus I just like to keep myself occupied and I wanted to try something different.

I sort of like it. When it's done, you'll look at it and say, "something's different, but I can't exactly tell what."

It's like a subtle mod that you don't normally see. Of course, it's a lot of work for a subtle mod, but I haven't seen it.

You basically just took out the foam and cut the urethane, right? I hope you didn't take out the actual bumper...I would think that would really mess up the way the car's supposed to react in a crash.

Yeah the stock metal bumper is still there. The styrofoam isnt going to be usable since the shape of the bumper has changed a lot. I haven't thought about it much but I plan to redo the styrofoam using expanding foam, I just not exactly sure how I am going to do this.... I'll figure it out as I go

Actually, I think it that's rather innovative. And coupled with the shaved trunk, should make for a rather "interesting" rear end for your Max. Keep us informed as you go along, Jeff. I'm curious to see the outcome.
