i've never seen it personally... but I kind of like that idea. it seems like it would be a bit difficult though since the air controls don't like to move very far. i have my whole dash apart right now so i could probably see how hard it would be to do it.

it wouldn't be impossible to do, but it would probably be more hassle than it's worth. the brackets for the a/c unit is not the same as a DIN.

Good luck! I moved my headunit to where the the ashtray and ciggy lighter is. I take it you want it to be higher for some reason. I had to take my entire dash out of my car when i had to get my clutch bracket pedal welded back into place and that wont be an easy task seeing that the climate controls are a bit smaller then the standard DIN sized headunit. Also you must make sure that the line that goes to the fresh air selector lever is long enough to go down there. I honestly think its not worth the effort unless you have the automatic (digital) climate control.

Moving the AC controls to the DIN spot is not hard. The difficult part depends on the length of your headunit. There is a tube frame bar behind the AC unit area. I think it's part of the frame that would be impossible to remove and if can be might make the frame of you car weaker. If you have a typical headunit the bar would push the headunit out about 1.5 inches there is no way to make it flush unless you remove that bar.

I found this out the hard way when I installed my tv screen. I moved the AC control unit to where the ashtray use to be then try to install my dvd headunit where the AC opening is. It fit perfectly until I tried to push the headunit back to make it flush with the dash.

So I ended up having the tv in my double din slot and the DVD headunit below it in the ashtray area. But it would look really nice if it could have fitted in the AC opening.

I know there is no correlation here. All I was getting at was anything can be done, whether it is easy or hard. And it just happened that I finished looking at the thread with Juan's mod.

I have a digital a/c and heater setup...I moved the A/C controls down from the top to the bottom of the second din...because I have my flip out TV in the top of the second din...I did this b/c when the TV popped out it got in the way of the A/C controls. Now the A/C hole is filled in with the Schose pocket that I had in the bottom of the second din...I love this setup and I put my strobe controls in the pocket and my remote controllers!!

I was going to try that, but I gave up because I am a lazy bastard. Plus, my deck tilts at an angle (3 angles actually), and it feels perfect where it's at now.

which alpine do you have? i have the 7875 (and got ripped off by circuit city... those bastards) my only complaint is for the high 400 dollar price tag i payed i would expect a better screen like pioneer's el organic display. the sound quality is extremely good though and the 60 watts per channel is nice.
