Audio holy war...

Okay guys, give me all your highly biased, probably insane, and generally wacko opinions that could fit into the following specs...
As you've probably read on my other threads on this topic: https://maxima.org/forums/showthread...threadid=24859 and
https://maxima.org/forums/showthread...threadid=24791
the factory Bose system in my 93 is up for replacement. You guys have helped me out a lot deciding on what I need in general, but I'd like a little more help if you wouldn't mind.
In a nutshell, what's the best HU + 4 speakers + amp I can get for $700 or less?
Alternately, what's the best HU + 4 speakers + amp + sub I can get in the $1,000 range?
Also, anyone in the Kansas City area that would be willing to try and help me install the new system? There's a couple beers and maybe some spare computer parts in it for you.

Hmmm, if you can ever get with JustinMC, he's got enough brains to help you witht he audio install.. I just dunno if he's got the free time. he DOES live in the KC area though.
What spare computer parts do you have? I'm looking for a decent video card, possibly a sound card..
Maybe we can work out a deal some weekend and I can swing by Ks City for a weekend and work on your car and hang with Justin.. ???
Ummm, to me the Kenwood system sounds decent for a "basic" system. unless you want to start spending $$$$$, that'll be a very good start. just make sure the speakers and head unit you buy now will be able to install amps and subs with them later. (high power rated speakers, and a H/U with at least one RCA output, needs to be 2V or higher)..
almost all HUs are 4V or higher now, but you can still find a few 0.5V output jobs..
lemme know man..

It has always fascinated me on how many people insist on buying brand new stereo stuff! If you are strapped, buy a good used amp, you can buy a better one later. Go ahead and invest in new mid range and highs, but go ahead and get a used sub with the box for nothing sometimes! I do suggest on getting the deck you want, the deck and amps make all the difference in my book, even if you have crappy speakers. But, this plan will give you good sound and allow you to save the extra dough to get a nicer deck, you can always buy a better amp and subs later when you can afford to expand your system. If you ask, most people with systems build them over years, mine took me 4 years to build to get exactly what I wanted and having around $2,000+ in the end product. Of course I have expensive tastes, my deck cost $600+!
