Noob ? on gas mileage
First day after I purchase the car I get the ticking sound on my 93 SE w/91k miles (VTC problem probably) but everyone assured me on this board that its ok still a good car enjoy it. That made me feel a lot better, thank you to everyone who responded!!! So today I go get my emissions test and the Max passed with flying colors, the operator at the emissions place said my car was in great shape with no emission problems, that made me feel good as well. I feel the car up with 93 Octane last night. My commute is 75 miles each way all highway, set cruise at 80 and now I'm below the 3/4 mark. This sucks, any advice is greatly appreciated. Not sure what work has been done on the car so I'm open to all suggestions. Would spark plugs and coils improve gas mileage? I'm searchin please give direction.......
TIA,
Henri

spark plugs and coils could help but not as likely as other stuff
O2 sensor (aka Oxygen sensor) has a lot to do with gas mileage so you might wanna change that out
welcome and check out the southeast regional forums. There are a lot of maximas around the Atlanta area and we have some meets occasionally and we could always use more 3rd gens there

if youve recently changed to 93oct, it takes a lil while for the ecu to adjust. Another thing is that the guage isnt right most of the time.
i have a 92 gxe and i sometimes get mad coz ill do like 60 miles and the needle was below 3/4. then it rounds out to about 150+ before it goes under a half tank.
nice to hear you passed, i wont

Your fuel sending unit may be funky as well (I know mine is). Whenever I fill up when the needle is on E (and not moving at all), I still have 3.5 gallons left.
Plus, the needle moves quite fast on the bottom half (like it'll be at half a tank and 15 miles later it will have gone down 1/8th of the way then sit there for another 40 miles or so).
