Can the dash be removed with removing any of the trim pieces or glove box?

DASH? or the guage cluster?

I would THINK you need to take EVERYTHING including the box off to get the dash out

If by dash you mean the actual dash, the part that gets beaten by the sun and is vinyl (IIRC), then no. Infact the climate controls bolt into it IIRC.

It isnt too bad though, Luckily in my experience our Maxima's are very easy cars to work on. Good screw placement, easy angles, not an excessive ammount nor not lacking. You can get to 95% of it by sitting in the drivers seat (the other 5% is the bolt that holds down the passanger side near the kick panel).
