Engine Problems-92 SE(120k)

Hello everyone!
I recently bought a 92 SE and found out it had problems coming out the door hinges.......!! But when I saw it sitting there, for some reason I just had to buy it. I'm a new .org memeber, so bear with me.

So far I've replaced the basics but I've ran into a couple of problems I was hoping you guys might shed some light on.

1. My car has an engine miss. I recently replaced the injectors because when I bought the car it drove perfect, but every so often it would hesitate and my mechanic said it was an an injector problem.
Now it has little power and my mechanic says it could be bad spark plugs or a bad valve. Sound familiar???? I'm replacing the plugs this weekend(I hope that's all it is).

Thanks!

mrgoogs.

another problem that plagues the VE30DE motor is the knock sensor. after the motor gets warm it create a heat soak problem that kills power. the knock sensor thinks that it is detecting pinging when it is not. therefore it retards your timing and killing power. they generally dont outright fail but get soft over time. just another thing you may wanna look into

You can bypass the KS by putting a 470K ohm resistor on the harness for the KS. I believe Craig Brace has a writeup on his site.

Also, about the lack of power, I would start fixing things from a cost perspective. You'd be rather angry if you had to replace the injectors & coils, and your problem was spark plugs. But you knew that already.

For spark plugs, I use NGK BKR5E-11's gapped at .44. They work fine and I change them every 15-20k or so.

1. Welcome aboard
Nothing like fresh Meat
2. Your mechanic needs to shut his mouth and diagnose before theorizing.
Did you check to see which Cylinder is missing?
It's pretty easy to do on the VE.
Just disconnect the coils one ata time until You find the one /ones that make no difference in the running of the engine.
Then you'll at least know what cylinder (s) are bad.
Swap the coil from a good cylinder to a bad one and see if the miss changes cylinders (BTW I would change all the plugs at this point anyways with the correct NGK laser Plats available through me of course)
If there is no change with the swapping of the coil Chances are You have a dead injector(s) But be sure to check them with a noid light before you replace them.
