Is this brake dust?
Is this brake dust?
Q's, apology ahead of time.Synopsis: New Axxis MetalMaster pads, and rotors installed. Also, new lowering springs.
I've noticed after having driven directly after cleaning my rims, they're covered in what looks like small splashes of liquid black ink. Residue wipes of like brake dust.
Low miles, actually only 60k.
This only happens on the rear, disc brakes. I also have ABS.
Also, brake pads and rotors are not overly hot to touch after highway drive.
Thanks again.
Reason I don't think it's brake dust: it looks like it "dripped" on to my rims.
If you think my calipers are set too tight, etc.. just let me know, I'll figure out the rest. I just wanted to know if this happened to anyone else.
Thanks.

That's a good call, thanks for the response. I should have been more clear, though.

CV boots are the boots that cover the front axels, black plastic ribbed. There are 4 total 2 inner and 2 outer on each side.
Your problem is not that. You may want to check your rear shocks, could be leaking. Do you smell any strange odors from the rear? (not gas). Or it could be brake fluid as well. Or it could just be wet brake dust?

if it's dust wiping off of it, I would suggest cleaning your rims really well and putting a coat of wax on it.
It sounds like the dust is actually sticking to water spots or other imperfections on the rims.. If you clean them up really well and wax them, it should help prevent the dust from sticking to the wheels.
and yes, Axxis are pretty bad about dusting. it's a tradeoff with the better performance.

for some wheels, there is a special wheel wax availble. I'd only recommend it if you've got some $$$$ rims or ones withpolished lips or something.
If you've just got regular powdercoated wheels, normal car wax will work just fine.
