If I would of known Maxima's transmissions were sooooo expensive, I wouldn't of bought my car! Even ones in the junkyard are over $1,000! AAAgghhh!
My tranny is definitely out and I don't want the same year put in. I was told the trannies are the same '89-'92. So can I put a '93 and up?
Help please!!!!!!!

I am not sure but I know one thing.....
You can't throw in a tranny that came out of 92-94 SE Maxima's, because those had the VE engine, trannies were most likely build stronger, but still not strong enough to last ... hence my tranny rebuilt at just 86k miles
When the tranny shop took the tranny out my car, they brought in another tranny from a VG Maxima, and from what I know, it didn't fit.... Those guys don't know **** about maxima's though and didn't know about the 190 horsepower TwinCam VE engine that came only in 92-94 SEs... they ossumed since 89-94 Maxes look the same, they must sport the same trannies, engines etc.... They ended up taking over a week for my rebuilt but they took my abused and dead tranny and rebuild it with new internals...
i think I heard there were like 3 different trannies on the 3rd gen Maximas, you can also look up which one you have by checking the VIN #? Not sure about this, don't quote me

The main difference between the 93-95 gxe transmission is that it has some slightly stronger internals in it. the company that produced the trannys for nissan chaged the parts they used for better durability.
according to another respected board member the bell housings for the VE tranny and VG tranny have the same bolt pattern. So it is possible that it COULD (hypotheticly speaking) bolt up..
