weird electrical problem

I was driving down the road last night and had my low beams on, and all of my dash lights went out, the corner lamps went out, and my tail lights went out. the brake lights still go on when i hit the brakes though. in other words, the interior of the car looks like i don't have the headlight switch turned on, but the headlights are the only lights on when i do have the switch turned on. tell me if i confused you... 1993 max se 5-sp, rewired corners so they are bright all of the time (been done for 2 months and no problems with lights until now) thanks in advance, i gotta get this thing going asap...cops don't like no tail lights

check fuses, it happened to me before, i only knew my interior lights were out not my tailights, then a cop pointed out my tailights were out. it turned out to be the fuse for the taillight that caused it all.

Check the tail light bulbs, I had this happen to me and the cause was the solder on the dual filiment bulbs had melted and cross conected the stop lights with the running / parking lights. This caused the interior 10 amp fuse to blow instantly. Do your interior lights come on faintly when you hit the brakes?

Just a thought, good luck

yeah if your gauges light up when you hit the brake, then its either the bulb itself or the fuse, check both

Funny thing is my car is also doing this. Happened a couple of weeks ago, put a new fuse in and didn't happen for a few weeks. But yesterday it happened a couple of times. This has happened to other peoples maximas-I found some old references to it on the search. I am going to look at the bulbs and wiring of the rear lamps first. Does anyone know what other locations the short could be? I've heard of people having this problem after putting in a aftermarket head unit that wasnt connected correctly?-but my HU is stock.

this is EXACTLY what happened to me when I had that dreaded corner lamp re-wire. took it off and wha-la. problem solved. if this is the case for you guys, undo the rewire. It's a problem of simply too much amperage for the whole circuit.
