Hello everybody

Just wanted to say hi, Just won a 94 Max in an auction for $400, really looking forward to getting it Monday morning. From what I've seen so far of your site it looks like I might be spending some time over here finding out what my max will be capable of. It's just to bad that it's a auto and a broken one at that. Seem reverse won't work. I hear that a common problem with the auto transmisson. Well hope to talk to you guys soon.

First of all, welcome to the .org-y! Enjoy the ride!

Second, I'm just curious about the auction. I just saw this thread which made me open my eyes. And it was curiously just before I saw your post.

Way to make him feel good about buying his Max!!!

Welcome to the board! The people here are very helpful, so you shouldn't have a problem figuring out your car's capability. Good job on getting it for $400 tho, that's almost free! (kinda)

Anyways, Welcome!

Luckly my auction was at a local vocational school and not online. I've seen it, there is a small peice of front bumper missing and the transmission thing but other then that it seems to be in decent shape and for $400 I shouldn't be expecting alot. As for it being a SE or not I didn't think to look, not being firmilar with the different trim levels at the time. It has these really big comfy looking leather seats, if that helps. Don't know if that was an option on the se or not. Well thanks for all the reply's, this really is starting to look better then the other forums I vist. Just one more quick question, how hard is it to rebuild one of these auto trannys? I'm in the middle of rebuilding a motor right now for a different car so I have some idea what i'm doing under the hood. I'm more worried about special tools and what not.

Chrome trim = GXE
Body color mirrors = GXE
Blacked our trim = SE
Black mirrors = SE
94 SE = Dohc motor (no distributor)
94 GXE = Sohc motor (distributor)

if'n I was you, I wouldn't bother rebuilding that auto unless you REALLY REALLY want an auto..its cheaper and more than likely easier to do a 5 speed swap (as others have said, 94 SE = VE dohc motor, so you want to find a 92-94 SE with a 5 spd for a parts donor, 94 GXE = VG sohc motor, so you want to find an 89-91 SE with a 5 spd for a donor)

omg, i just found a 93 se 5sp with like 94000 miles on it. i really want it but the tranny is screwed and it feels like the clutch is screwed. apart from that, everything else seems good. the body is a little dinged but thats why they made bondo. the only problem is that if i sold my car now, id still not have enough money to buy that and fix, so i think ill just wait.

I think it's the GXE it has the numbers under the door handle to unlock and it's got the bose stereo system. I think that if I can get the tranny fixed and that front bumper taken care of I might try and trade it in for a SE with a 5 speed.

Or maybe I'll try the swap. I've always been told it's easier to go from a manual to an auto and that it was a pian to go from an auto to manual, I'll look to see what I can find about the swap. Worth atleast thinking about.

I gotta question for you guys seeing as how I can't search. 94 was the last year for the third gens and I'm under the impresion from some things that I've read that half way through the year that they started to chabge some things. How can I tell if my car is in the second or first half and what changes were made?

well i dont know about ninety four, but my 92 gxe is a late model and whenever i was using the crutchfield master sheet, i said something about screws that were in the 89-92 models, but not in the 93-94. Mine didnt have these screws and it turned out that my car was made in may 92, wasnt bought until july 93.

yeah well im leaving that se alone now, its really harsh, brakes suked, front drivers strut was ceased. it has the older wheels up front and the newer ones in the back. i wanted to cry whenever i seen a third gen in distress like that, he said hed give me a straight trade for my gxe. i told him to get lost, my car is worth more than that
