16" or 17"-quagmire????

Greetings fellow maximans...!

The search function isn't working so if my question has been asked and answered, I apologise.

I'm looking to get new rims for my 92 max and i'm debating btw 16" and 17".
I'd like to get a 16" wheel, preferably the Eagle 077 5 spoke, but it has an 8" width and according to my tire company, thats a tad bit too wide, so if anyone has an 8 inch wheel and has any info on recommendations for installation nad tires , please hook a brother up.

Plus any advice on 17" possibilities and if what your experience is with 17's.

Thanks!!

mrgoogs.

You can run a 16x8 wheel with a 30 offset, I do it every day.

Between 16's and 17's is up to you. Weigh your options.

i had a set of eagle 077 17x8s on my max up until about 2 weeks ago..the only issue i had with 235/45 tires was the rear, you need small spacers for them to fit but other than that, those rims are pretty heavy, but they look great in my opinion..maybe i'll get another set someday.

Most people like to go with 17's, but Matt93SE ran with 16's for the longest time, and one other thing to consider is the peer pressure people will give you to lower the car if you go with 17's. With 16's the wheel gap isn't as noticable (depends on wheel styling too) but with 17's it usually is.

All other things being equal, 16" wheels and tires will be lighter than 17" ones and you could notice a performance diffference. If you can afford to, get lightweight wheels.

If you're mainly doing this for looks, offsets aren't as critical because you can just use a narrower tire, but if you want big tires like Madmax024's, then you'll need something between +35 and +30. (His Eagle 077's are +38 by the way, I don't know what the 16" model's offset is.) I believe 225 tires with some narrower wheels also work with broader offsets too (in the +40's).

I got 17s, with 37PSI in the front and 35PSI in the rear and the car seems to be a little bouncy sometimes. Is that normal cuz if I lowered it to factory spec at 29, they look really flat?

Get some Rota wheels. Not very heavy and not very expensive. Rota = win/win wheels.

try 32-43 front and 32 back... might reduce the bounce a bit, but theyre obviously going to be harder than stock setup.. My 17"s with lowering has some savage jolts on some of the rougher bumps.
