I broke a bolt on my cat

Well I was removing the catalytic converter from my car because I figured it would be easier to remove my shifter with it gone. In the process I broke of the rear bolts. I dont think it would have broken if I jacked up my car more (limited room with breaker bar) and removed both bolts evenly, but oh well.

Poor bolt, it wasnt in that bad of shape, and my cat is in excellent shape (and I have emissions in a month or two so I dont want to hack it ).

Everything else came out with out a problem. I started my car for a second but then it started to smell so I shut it off. I'll wait until I put my heat sheild back on before I do that again. Now I must go find myself some good grade 8 bolts for the back of it so that it wont happen again.

Poor little bolt. R.I.P. 12/11/2003.

Oh I think the maxima is next on his list. He does run arco and ran the car on like E for several days.

Get a 3/8" drill bit and drill out the old bolt. don't bother re-tapping the hole- just stick a new 3/8" bolt with lockwasher and a nut on it and you're done. don't worry about grade 8 either. it's unnecessary. just put some anti-sieze on the bolt and make sure you get zinc plated hardware. shouldn't be a problem after that.

why 3/8 instead of 15mm or 17mm, whichever one it tis?

because that's the size of the hole you'll drill, not the size of the bolt head.
the bolt in there is a 10mm bolt.. with a 17mm head on it.

Thanks Matt! your experience always saves me time


And Arco is the cheapest gas you can get around here pricewise, and I think it runs the best but everyone always argues with me.
