Hey Look, Shortened Rear Bumper

Finally got this project pretty much done, like every mod I half finish "it still needs a bit of smoothing and stuff" . Its the stock rear bumper shortened 2 inches and hacked up and welded beyond belief.

I hope I can hotlink from sound domain, both my servers are down

I don't know why you would want to do that, but hey it looks pretty good.

Nice work.

the last pic really shows the difference. the other ones didnt look like 2"s at all.

now if only you were local, It would have been nice to see how long it would have taken me to figure it out

Oh yeah, and could you post or email me some more info on how to "plastic weld" is it an adhesive compound of a form of welding?

looks good, Why ask why? he obviously wanted to do it, I remember in his last post he sais he wanted it to look more like the big luxery cars most have short bumpers.

That's tight. I always dislike both front and rear bumpers on the max. The protrusions were no doubt the works of governement to regulate safety standards on card designs, just like those hideous "bumper car" pods they had to install on Lambo Countach's back in the 80's.

DO THE FRONT BUMPER NEXT!

Nice work!

I like the bumper... A LOT!

The trunk lid looks just to plain and squared off with it though.

thanks for the postive feedback

I really want to do a similar mod to the front bumper, at the same time I actually want to have my car painted by spring so I may hold off on that. I might just fiberglass a valance for the front bumper and build something to hold the front licenece plate (possibly motorize it).

I agree with you on the trunk lid, I blame the tail lights for making the rear end look so old and boxy. I would love to do what shavedmax did with his tail lights.

go different, slap on some caddy lights, the old skool rocket kind, that would look awsome. im thinkin about mounting led's at the top of the rear window instead of the single lamp tailights, what do you think, has it been done?

big ups for originality!

the last pic makes the car look stumpy! any way you can get a side profile shot of the car to show us overall length? i think that would be good for perspective

not sure i would have done that much work for such a subtle change, but like i said before, much respect for originality!

I'll take some more pic of the whole car this week. I was actually giving it a good look tonight and the front end (from a side view) looks ridiculous. Hopefully lowering and putting my 17's back on will make it look better from the side. A mod I really want to do but I promise I will not do is moving the front wheels about 8" forward so the wheelbase is huge. That would really clean up the proportions of the car but I'd have to basically re-fabricate every piece up front and I am pretty sure I cant do that.

I'm working on frenching my power antenna into the rear 1/4 panel right now, hoping I can have that mod done by the weekend. Then its on to whatever modifcations I decide for the front bumper.

yea that would be nearly impossible.. but i think with your talent you coul dmess with something and shorten the bumper and push the radiator back a little bit and cut off a few inches off the front. i agree the nose is just a wee bit to long, and so are the corner lights.. modify those a lil bit too..

Why not to angle grill (meaning new grill) over the front bumper and get matching headlights then? This should improve aerodynamics and look ... perhaps
And pls don't beat crap out of me for this suggestion
