New to the forum.....looking at a 93' GXE

Long story sort, I've been searching for a nice used car, and stumbled upon a 93' GXE auto, it has 86,100 miles on it, black, cloth interior, all in all a fairly 'bare bones' maxima, but that isnt all so bad, still has all he stuff a guy really makes use of. Thing is, it isnt just for me, it'll be for my girlfriend/fiance' as well, I have a 95' Infiniti G20/nissan primera that I drive daily. I was thinking this would suit her as a hella nice car, and be great for longer trips as my g20 is rather small. Wondering what you guys think in terms of reliability and such on this car, how easy parts are to come buy(cost/availability etc.), granted your all a little bias I've seen several posts about tranny issues, concerns me, but I'd think most of these cars would have alot more miles on them? Alright, enough of my long winded self........teach me, show me the light

elementalg20-

Heck yeah you should get it! We can always use another Max in Iowa Like they said if you want more power get a 92-94 SE, but GXE's are quite nice too.

Oh, and welcome to the ORG

get the car my friend. to me its very reliable. the only major thing i've done to my '93 is the tranny which i got out of a '94 with 64,000 miles on it and it works like brand new. all u got to do is give it the basic maintenance and it will last u for a very long time.

My 94 has been reliable, which is good. But I've been hit by several of the known problems-control arm bushings, window regulators X2, alternator, rear lamp sockets. I also had some terrible brake squeal, turns out a brake drum was cracked. Now it is back and running good though. So, overall it has been reliable, but lately has had some problems. How much do they want for it? And save some money for timing belts and the inevitable other small repairs.

I have a 93 gxe maxima fully loaded and i love it. This car is my most fav. car i have had and is awsome on road trips. I have 133,000 miles on it and 50,000 i put on. The maintence I have done since I bought it is, brakes, tires, struts (expensive), and alternator $400. Runs like a dream and I would highly recemond you buy it. Every one here says get the SE, but if you want comfort and luxurey go for the GXE.

same amount of comfort and luxury in an SE, only 30 more hp...

You didn't mention how much you were going to pay for the car, which is a consideration.

As with any car, there are typical things that can go wrong or need to be replaced. The automatic transmission seems to be the big one for the Maxima, along with the usual types of things like alternators, water pumps, starters, etc.

There are lots of members here over 150k and several over 200k. I think someone had like 400k on one somewhere, but I can't remember who.

Anyway, the Maxima is definitely a very reliable car and properly maintained will last a loooong time.

I vote BUY

I have a 1993 GXE with 180K on it. Never gives me any major problem. Just ordered some new control arms but other than that tranny is still strong and it runs great! Daily driver.
