Window regulator problem??

My driver's window will go down but not up sometimes. I can hear the relay clicking when I hit the switch, but there is no movement from the window. This is the regulator, right??

Thanks!!

should be yes...front regulators are cake to change with instructions from Craig Brace's site..
www.geocities.com/craigbrace I think..
Internetautomar sells them pretty cheap ($45), and they dont require any special tools..just a #3 phillips screwdriver (magnetic is a must pretty much), a 10 mm socket or adjustable wrench, the destructions, and a slotted screwdriver..if you have a door panel removal tool, great, use it and you wont damage as many of your plastic clips..

could that also be a bad motor or just regulator, cuz mine does the same,I thoought a bad regulator causes the glass to shake but not moving or moving slow, would be the motor, I guess some insight on this can help me out too.

If your regulator gets fouled up inside, it can still go up, but it makes the motor work hard to get the window to go up. Mine was going up super slow before the regulator finally fried. One day I went around a corner and the window just dropped into the door. It looks like the top pulley just broke apart, but there was damage to other pulleys, too and I think those other pulleys were what caused the window to go up so slowly.

My regulator came with a new motor, but I gave a guy with a Nissan Axxess (?) my old motor and it works just fine in his car.

when the regulator on my back left door went bad, it went down and stayed down..fortunately, the back windows don't go down all the way, so I taped it up for about 7 months before fixing it..then realized that the back windows not going down all the way is a real handicap when you change the regulators on them..you can't get to the screws that attatch the regulator to the window nearly as well as you can on the front doors..

Not unless you change to itty-bitty rear tires and cut a slot for the glass in the rear wheel wells.

Look at the relationship of the rear wheel arch, the door and the glass.

Does your window wobble in the track? Mine did the same thing, needed help coming up, so I took off the door panel and brushed the window track with silicone lube from the bottom to the point that meets the rubber upper portion. No problems ever since...

Easiest way to checkmotor VS reg is to listen to the door while pushing the window switch and listen for the motor
While not 100% foolproof it is a good indicator

Thanks very much for the infomation. This was an informative thread.

I ordered a regulator on Ebay for $45. I think it comes with a motor. If it doesn't need a regulator now, it will someday, so I will install it and see how it goes.

its up to you where you want to get your parts, but I'd encourage people to support .org members sales..internetautomar sells the regulator alone for $45, and you use your current motor..after putting new regulators on, my windows were sluggish to go up and down, while when my front left one went out it zipped up and down..well, the front left one went out and 2 days later it had a new one in it (had it done at a body shop since it was the middle of winter and at the time, I had no clue what I was doing..), while the back left one and front right one had been bad for awhile..in fact, the front right one was bad for over 2 years before I changed it, my uncle and I just reversed part of the cable to lock the window up..well, I had thought the motors were weak and about to go out, but they work pretty well now..I guess sitting for awhile is kinda hard on them..

Some people think everything on ebay is cheaper. but they tend to ignore shipping costs. and how were the parts bought?
new from a store with a guarantee
or as part of a "distressed" mercahndise sale?
with parts of questionable quality and history.

yes today is my preachy day

my site works fine, sometimes geocities will temporarily shut it down if it uses too much bandwidth, but it'll tell you that and you can try again in a few hours. I just checked it now and it's fine.

if for some reason, it's still not working, there is a copy of it (just the regulator article) on www.bignissans.org.uk in the J30 section under common problems
