Accident today :/ (Pics)

Today it finally happened. After fifteen years of no accidents, she had her first one. I was traveling down Forsyth Rd. in Orlando when an '04 Lincoln Towncar skated out in front of me to get in my lane from out of nowhere through the other line of traffic. They were very nice about it. I didnt get a ticket (which is good) and the whole ordeal took about an hour and a half. My right of way was violated by the other guy.Pics are below. Cornering light/Running light, quarter panel, bumper and hood took the brunt of it all. You can see the front of the quarter panel is pushed in. It's (the quarter panel) pushed back where when I open the right front passenger door it makes a nasty RRRRRRRRT sound. The headlight is out of alignment and pushed back past the grille. It hurts to see my baby like this

The damage doesn't look that bad. But any damage is bad I guess, shouldn't be too much to get the work done.
Sorry about the misfortune, I know the feeling of your pride and joy being a little banged up.l

Well, you're ok. That's what matters overall. Now, since you said they're being good about things, are they going to help out with repair costs? THAT would be a good thing.

Sounds like your fender was knocked out of alignment with the crash. Had the same problem, but on my drivers side. I loosened the bolts holding the upper part of the fender (the ones under the hood), pushed the fender up towards the front of the car, re-tightened the bolts, and no more scraping.

Of course, that's a temporary fix, cuz it looks like you'll need to get the fender fixed anyway.

thanks guys, I really appreciate it. I talked with Studman and he says I'm looking at about 2500 worth of repairs, and the car isnt worth that much (about $1200) with 161,xxx miles on it and being an '89. So insurance probably wont pay for it, which means she might go bye bye. ps, the other two pics are up on my cardomain site.

yes, the Winter Blue Metallic sings to my heart. I love it. I too think it's a beautiful color. It's a shame that Nissan quit making the color. And yep, the car has been well taken care of, as you can see from the gloss of the paint in the photos of the accident. Interior is good too. As I was pulling into the 7-11 where I talked with the State Trooper, I told her, "I'm so sorry, baby!"

Man sorry to hear and see that. About two years before I got my own maxima, I test drove a '91 in that "robin egg" color(as I like to call it). That color made me fall in love with maximas! ...well that and the 5-spd and white face gauges

Dont even think of it as the end. If they total it you can take the money and buy it back, get a CF hood for $500, then a new fender for $150, clear corners for $20, Bimmer Lights for $100 and you should be pretty much good to go, that is not bad at all, my car had more damage when I hit a curb, well lots of suspension front and back, I fixed it myself cause the insurance would of totalled it.

well, that is true, but on top of that, she needs another tranny to boot, that's another $2000 right there, and being brutally realistic, the repairs exceed the KBB, which makes it one PITA of a situation. spending almost $4k on a car worth about $1200....hmmm... I love her to death, but that kind of money is just ouch.

Time for a VE 5spd if you ask me, since now that you have owned a Maxima, you're probably not interested in getting something else of that era, so perhaps time to get the best one of the 3rd gens.

if you really want a VE 5 spd, buy one..I'd keep the '89, do the body work myself, buy a 5 spd out of an 89-91 SE, swap it out, and keep the better looking GXE trim package (IMO) if I were in the same situation..

I offer you my condolences, I have had three close instances of drivers pulling into my lane without signaling or checking blind spots in the past month. I tried to tell how I view this as unusal to my friends and family. However, the responses are typically "oh, I am not surprised if that happens on my way to work" or "people do that to me on average 5 times a month".

My question is whether I do have a valid comment, or I am just complaining. I would hate to think that close calls are invalid until someone has the misfortune of an accident because my patience is waning.

Thanks Davebond, I've thought about it. if I can find a VE 5spd I'll jump on it. In FL they're supremely hard to find. I want another maxima, whatever gen it may be. Not an '04 though. Thanks also to GoldenIce, 93GXE_TX and EdzMax. I love this community.

Sorry to hear about the accident but I'm glad you're OK! Its to bad you didn't live in Brooklyn. You could have all the body done, parts replaced for around $500-600.

Hey, thanks. Its nice to know that I'm thought of.

I don't think that you are interpreting me correctly. I was referring to cars of different manufacturers of that era (hondas, subarus, maybe not bmw, but you get my point).

i dont think that damage is 2500 mine was WAY worse then that and was only around 1800 so you may be in luck (if you do want to keep it) cuz i th9ink that can be rapired for around 1100 from seeing that and comparing it to mine.

anyways back on topic:
Body estimates like mechanical estimates Vary widely from place to placeand who writes it.
I can write a $750 estimate for that damge or a $2k+ one for it. It's all in how I write it up.
Yes, I can do body estimates too

Report from insurance adjuster: $1014 in repairs. They're paying for it all. I get a new headlight assembly, cornering/running light and fender. They're repairing the front bumper, and hood, repainting them as well. It is all to be done at the shop of my choosing. It'll take about 5 days. So she's still with me, but there's other stuff in the air, like the tranny. At least she'll look good as new. just like my sig

I was driving in crowded traffic today caught at a stop light surrounded by cars and out of no where BAM some woman in a Saturn idles into the back of me. WTF! Luckily though no damage for me, this is the 2nd hit my rear bumper has taken in a year! People suck! Merry Christmas!

Some guy backed into my moms Altima then claims that he can't see out the back window. Good thing no damage was inflicted or the cops would love to hear that guy say that over and over again. The ironic part is that my mom was honking her horn for about 3 seconds giving him a chance to stop backing since her car was right behind him. Her car was parked on the side of the street already and he was pulling out.
