headlight problem

after trying everything possible, i was hoping someone else has experienced the same difficulty i have. while my headlights are on, the bright light lamp on the gauge cluster is always just a little lit up. i know if you have a headlight out, it is supposed to be lit. however, both of mine are functional. my headlights have been changed. i've changed the harness/connector and still, nothing. the bright light lamp turns on fully when the brights are on also. i was wondering if maybe a lower-than-normal voltage was causing it to come on just a little bit (like a headlight is partially out?). that's about the only thing i can come up with. any input is appreciated. i searched and couldn't find a problem like this on here either.again, i've changed the lights, harnesses, etc and no luck... i searched and couldn't find a problem like this on here either. btw, this problem IS on my 89 GXE (not the 98).

Why not have someone run a voltage check on the side you're having the problem. You might have to just replace a fuse. Or the power at the beginning of the wires may be shorting out near the firewall, relay box.

Personally I'd guess a malfunction in the bright switch, Causing a feed back into the bulb
But that's just a guess

I'd say something along the lines of the headlight COMBO switch. But... I would do that at the last resort. I had a problem with having only 1 headlight lit when the brights were turned on, the combo switch was at fault. Some people have said that the combo switch usually goes out. It cost me about $75.00 from the junkyard, and $73.00 from the dealer. First time that the dealer was cheaper. Haha.

wiring. i had this problem before and my solution was fixing the wires. i did a poor man's cai and my wire had got caught on the piping somehow and shorted out. the high beam indicator was on while the high beams were off. i fixed the wires and it solved the problem. you may check your wiring to make sure there isn't a short somewhere.

My headlamps (hi-beams) were doing weird stuff. I traced it down to the headlamp combo switch. Unforantly, no-one makes an aftermarket combo switch, so I had to goto the dealer $75.00. It fixed the problem.

take out the high beam bulb if you don't think it's a big problem. Taking apart the head light stalk on the steering column looks like a pain in the @ss.
