Rust Problem in my Maxima, need help.

If its only surfice rust you can use some semifine polishing compound, thats what I've used on mine and it works great. What I would do is get rid of the rust with the compound then wipe the bare metal spot with osfo and then cover it with touchup paint, if the spot is small. big spots will need more attention then that

To get rid of rust spots you should first clean the area by sanding it with rough paper firs and than go to the finer grid paper. If you have acess to a sand blaster use it those clean rust spots really good. If the spot is rusting through than forget about the sand blaster cause it will make a hole in the metal if you hold it to the metal for too long. After you clean the spot use a primer with rust protection any brand is good. Then use 400 or 500 grid sand paper and sand the primer till it feels smooth. Wipe the area with degreaser and let it dry. Then just find the paint that will match the color of your car and paint it, use about 3 coats of paint, wait for the first one to dry before you put another one on. Then put on 2 coats of clear coat and you are done. I know it's a lot but it's the proper way to do it.
