The better gas milage in power mode is fubar i get crap milage in power when im drinving downtown in milwaukee and why would you need to mash the pedal in comfort or auto i accelertae just the same i just dont hear my car wine up to 3500. in power you are rev much higher and your engine is turning much faster which means more fuel is being pumped in i think the power button is over rated definately auto or comfort for me.

I leave it on auto because it switches to power when I mash the gas anyway.

I have a Power/Comfort Switch in my 5spd now

If someone with a parts car wants to send me a cut wiring harness for it, I would appreciate it, the harness with 3" of wire would be more than enough, I'm tired of messing with the jerry rigged setup. heh. PM me if you can help me out with it.

no it doesn't switch to power mode when the gas is pressed to full throttle. The switched is disabled by the ecu whenever the throttle is at ~75%

Than why does the orange light in the power spot of the switch turn on when you floor it in auto?

Because Turdlett is wrong, at least for the 92 SE works that way.

When I pressed full throttle while I was in comfort. I never saw the power light come on. My light does work b/c once I switch it to power it illuminates.

Mrgone - why are you installing the switch in your 5 speed? Ur taking the dignity away from us autos...probably not.

That's because Comfort means it is always in comfort mode. It never enters power mode.

Auto means that it stays in comfort UNTIL you floor it in which it enters power mode.

Power mode of course means it is always in power mode, for more sporty acceleration/easy hill climbing/and better passing ability on the highway.

turdlett, thats the way my old auto was (comfort mode staying there, etc. I dunno, lol it's been a long time).

I installed the switch and wired the VI to Power mode (even though it does jack) and wired the VTC's to comfort (to comfort my ears ).

So when it's in auto what happens? Atleast you finally came up with a way to control your VTC's.

turdlett, sorry I didn't answer your question before. When it's in the middle it does nothing I also disconnected the power valve wiring part because it didn't do jack.

The O/D doesn't have a specific speed that it kicks in at. The tranny will shift through gears as you accelerate and kick into O/D when you let off. Try cruising at city speed(35MPH, 50Kph) and turn O/D off. Watch the rev's jump.

With so many miles (260k), my transmission shifts hard, I leave it in Comfort to reduce the hard shifts.

check your resistor. If it shifts hard in powah then it should do the same in comfort. Besides the tranny should have been dead at 260k. Mine died at 230k.

Holy thread revival! I leave mine in the middle (Auto) all the time. I also do ATF drain and fills every other oil change (~6000 mi) with Nissan OEM ATF, and the thing still runs smooth as silk after 13.5 years and almost 170K.

Yeah, Depends on my mood. If I'm frisky I'll keep it on power but if I'm highway cruising with little stops I'll run comfort. I actually don't think about it too much unless the little orange light is bothering me at night. (OCD)

I think it's like a placebo switch.

Although I hate how short comfort makes my first gear...

I leave the switch in the middle, I guess the middle is auto. But I use to have it in Comfort a lot, but then I had in Power for about a week to see a difference. I leave it in the middle because I think it doesnt matter, whether for pushing the pedal or cruising in this mode.

As for the O/D, I leave it on so it kicks when it needs to.

But does Comfort really give more MPG? is Power mode faster then Comfort or no difference?

I have seen no MPG difference between Auto and Comfort.
I won't run power because then the motor revs higher before any shift, which should decrease mileage.

I leave mine on auto because if I put it on power, I think it shifts way too much depending on how much gas you give it. I also think that when it is on power, it is just burning off more gas.

hmm... shifts way too much? Shifts are usually longer so it should shift less, just higer RPM's. And I really don't notice too much of a gas milage differen't between auto and Power. I don't run comfort much anymore because of my near imaginary 1st gear.

Hmm.. I actually noticed it shifting less in power. Because say I'm driving normal and I'm at 30MPH then decide to tromp it. Instead of downshifting from 3rd or overdrive, a lot of times it's still in second. Just my personal expirience...

When I have mine in power, it seems to complete the shift faster, which feels rougher. Maybe that is why Maxima9750 thinks it shifts more, because he can feel it more.

Tell your tranny that I said it's life expectancy is about 3-6 months. J/P but seriously don't race the VG autos. I know since I have been through three in a little more than a year. ABout the O/D thing you car stays in 3rd gear and doesn't switch to the OD gear. Therefore you don't feel the car downshift from 4-2 or 4-3 since it dosn't have to as you are staying in your gears longer due to diengaging OD. That is not smart cuz gas costs but if you want power over a few extra dollars a week then do you but don't dog the tranny.
