My Speedo Dont Work!!!!

Ok i have this car a few weeks and I knowticed once before the speedometer got stuck and then would jump alil when I hit a bump. I thought it was doing it because it was cold. It didnt happen for 3 weeks or so. Then yesturday on the way to work it started again and now its gone completely. I took the dash apart and made sure all the connections were good and still no luck. I did fix my clock though.

Tomorrow i will get under the car and check the speedo cable. Has anyone else experienced this before? Any help would be great!

By the way its a 92 SE with only 75k on it.

yep
unbolt the 4 bolts on the back of the speedo and it should just come out, IIRC.

On my VG there was the harness that the speed sensor wire runs to and another wire that looks like it runs down to the tranny. It has a clamp that sits like right next to the oil filter and that wire got burned by the oil filter. I tried seeing if maybe electric tape could fix it but there was no use so I gotta find a way to do it when the car is not hot and see if the wire is removable so I can solder some new wire there and re-install it. Check to see if you have any fried wires near the oil filter. That might be a reason

I found the problem. The speed sensor wire pigtail came loose. I tried to and clean the speedo and resolder it but by doing so i think I broke the speedo. Because now the odometer works but the speedo dont..

hmmm... where'd you do that?... I need to find somewhere I can plug something in, because I think there's a loose wire somewhere.

The sensor is located in the tranny close to the firewall. Below the fuel filter. It has a brown pigtail. This in on a 5spd not sure about a auto.

I had the same problem with my 91 SE where my odo nor the sepeedo was working and I had to change the speedo sensor right below the oil filter. It's an easy process and I believe this should fix your problem. I paid $50 for it at the junkyard.

Good luck
