Tranny Problem

I meant to post this a while back but it had just slipped my mind. My manual tranny went out on me around a year ago w/ 185,000 miles. Found 1 from TX for $700. I prolly coulda found one cheaper but I was much more a newb and didn't know where to look. Anyways, I got it, put it in, went to drive it and it was stuck in 1st gear. the shifter wouldn't move and it looked as if it were in neutral. So I was gonna take it back out then send it back. So I went out driving it around just for the **** of it....drove it for prolly 20 min then it finally came out of gear. It was still stiff and wouldn't go into every gear yet, but I kept driving it and eventually I got it into and every gear. I have no idea what would have caused that so I just figured I would post and see if anyone had any thoughts. Oh and btw, where there is normally a tranny fill plug for gear oil...this tranny does not have one. It has no place to add gear oil or check it. So we put it in through where the speedo goes. Any ideas on that one either.

what kinda warranty does the tranny have? take it to a shop and have them check the fluid.

Not sure about any warranty. I doubt there is still a warranty after this long.

get it examined by a mech you trust. If it IS the tranny, you'd be better of getting it rebuilt rather than buying used. Call Brad @ 973 827 9932 I got off the phone with him a couple of mins ago. He has a few cores in and has some good beefing up done on the 5speed tranny for under 2grand. Might sound kinda expensive but he has options for a good warranty as well.
