my nissan is a 5 speed and its making a whomp whomp sound, but it doesn't have a vibration, its louder when its in gear,and the faster it goes the faster the sound. Any ideas? If its the transmission bearings going out what other year model trannys will hook up to my motor v6 {3000} thanks for any help. I really love my car and I'm so hart broken.

 

could also be wheel bearings and or cv joints

but since you say its louder in gear my guess would be tranny bearings

is there any noise when your not moving with the tranny in nuetral and the clutch let out

the trannys from 89 to 91 maxes are for sure but we used a 5spd out of an 87 max in my friends 91 the only diference was there was no fill plug on the side of the tranny so we had to fill it through the speedo gear

 

thanks for the reply, yes it still makes noise but not as loud, I changed the gear oil and it did'nt make any difference.

I dunno when I bought it used you could see numbers wrote on the tranny from a junk yard, and I have put a lot of miles on it myself. the motor has about 250k the previous owner took care of it they just put a timeing chain in right before I got it. I've had it about 3 years.
