misfire in a vg
misfire in a vg
my max is misfiring. i starting pulling the wires from the distributor so that i can find out what cylinder its coming from. it is #5. i am thinking it could be the fuel injector. i have new wires and new plugs. i think im going to change the rotor too before i assume its the injector. how hard is it to change an injector on the vg. ive changed one on my old ve and it didnt seem to hard. but it looks like you have to take off the top cover on the engine to change on the vg. anyone have any tips or suggestions. thanks

all you have to do is take off the upper manifold and then the spacer piece that is in between the upper manifold and lower manifold. once you do that you have access to your injectors. pretty straight forward.
Not hard, couple hours work. My suggestion is that while you are in there you also ohm-out your other injectors and check/replace the fuel lines on the rail. Those are both things that require removal of the intake, so might as well do it once. Might want to have a set of gaskets handy too, depending on how old the current ones are.
to mtcookson & broncoguy suggestions*test the injectors
*replace the fuel hoses
i can't quite remember, but
injectors should read 13ohm resistance if they're working properly right?
anything lower or higher means your injectors are going bad or they are fubar'd

10-14 ohms IIRC

i learned the hard way too...
but now i know how to do it and i saved myself a tonne of money this past year replacing 3 injectors myself.
well did it today. man was the pain in the a$$. but i still get a misfire. i think i screwed up though. when i put the new injector in the fuel rail, i noticed that it wouldnt go in all the way. i figured when i put hte cover back on(the piece with the two phillips screws) that it would snap into place. i did not put anything to lube the o-rings as i placed the injector back into the fuel rail. im guessing that i am leaking fuel because i am still getting i misfire. the car is running a little smoother but the misfire is there nonetheless. the car also smells of fuel.
the game plan: do everything all over again. should go quicker because i know what im doing. check the o-rings on injector for damage. replace if need be. make sure i use vaseline this time. i also want to clean the other injectors. what is the proper way to clean the other injectors? thanks guys for the help.
