leaky valve cover

i was wondering if anyone else had this problem with leaking some oil on their VE. i notice it's mostly around the lower bolts and camshaft position sensor. is this common and what's the cause (just a gasket)? i have an fsm only for a 91 so i'm not sure on the procedure to replace the gasket, but i guess it shouldn't be too hard. suggestions are always welcomed. thank you.

you can kinda see it in this pic. don't flame me for the condition of the bay; this is after i just bought it.

i had a leak there. I just used some gasket sealer I've got and cleaned up the surfaces and reused my gasket + the sealer. Hasnt leaked since.

Its very simple to replace, mine never leaked but I did replace it on a customer's car and it was simple. Take out the coil-packs and the hose that comes from the back. Then remove all the little bolts around the valve cover and pull up and it comes out with ease. Best thing to do is buy a valve cover kit since you get everything you need (the valve cover gasket, spark plug gasket, etc.) It should take no more than 30-40 minutes taking your time.

My rear one leaks, thanks to someone trying to F-- with the VTC's before I bought it. They ended up breaking a brake line, two of those studs that hold the valve covers on, and the Front Main Seal.

naw...

It leaks about a quart per 1000 miles, but I'm planning an engine swap this spring, so screw it. I've even got all the gaskets to do the job...
