fuel filter & diagnosis (long)
Greetings fellown Max owners
I'm hoping you can help me out before I drop any $$ at the shops.
Two weeks ago, I added some fuel additive (Techron Concentrate) and topped off the near-empty tank. Then I refueled again (Arco gas) and went on a 135-mile-trip. I stopped for dinner and drinks for about 2-3 hours. When I started up, my car had a rough idle and loss of power; the engine vibrates. I checked the vacuum lines but no luck.
It seems like the plugs may be fouled. I'll be changing those next. It's about 5000 miles away from the next tune-up. The guy at Pep Boys says it may be the fuel filter since I recently added the Techron. I do happen to have a fuel filter that I purchased in 1998 for a 1985 300ZX. I believe it will work with my VG30. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong. Courtesy Nissan has the fuel filter as 16400-00003 while the one I have is 16400-om200. Do these things go bad on the shelf?
I have a factory service manual but never did a fuel filter. Does anyone have any extra advice when changing the fuel filter?
While under the hood, I noticed at least one of my valves clicking. With this in mind, should I junk engine/car or get it done at a shop. What's a fair price for a valve job?
Sorry for the long post. Money is tight right now and I was just about to do the brakes. That's going to have to wait until I get the car running good again.

1st of all brakes are much more important than your car running good besides brake pads are like $15 and rotors are only like 25 a piece thats if you even need them
it sounds to me like a fuel injector craped out but if your due for a tune up i would do that first to see if that solves it if not then if an injector
i dont know about the fuel filter but if the hoses slide on it should work
