KYB Struts
Ok, so apparently my post didn't go through last night. No wonder no one has responded to my question. And it wouldn't let me reply to it either, so we'll try again. Anyway, I was checking out the KYB struts on internetautomarts website and I noticed that only the KYB struts also had kyb strut mounts that you have to purchase seperately. My question is, can you use the KYB struts with the stock mounts or do you have to buy the kyb strut mounts? What is the advantage with going with these struts and strut mounts.

you can use KYB struts with stock mounts with no problems
if your stock mounts are in bad shape (look at them from the engine bay and take off the circle cover in the middle, see how the rubber around the center bolt looks), then it'd be a good time to replace them when you replace the struts
same thing with dust boots - you have to remove strut and spring to replace them so it'd be a good time to do so if they're torn (the rubber accordian boot around the strut on the insdie of the spring)

Ohhhh, ok that sounds good. I'm really not worried about my strut mounts at this time (had one replaced about 9 months ago, and the others were fine) so I might pick up the KYB's. I was thinking about doing the sprint springs and the st stuts but do you think it would be worth it to get the KYB's.

I think it would. From what I've heard they're great. I need some, I just noticed that the dust boots on my front struts are gone!!! You can see the bare metal!! It has probably been like that for awhile (couldn't tell thanks to the maxima's great suspension ::salutes Nissan:: for a good job) until I noticed I was bottoming out a little too easy. Probably gonna pair them with some Tein springs if i can. Do the suspension all around.

Ok, guys school me on this cause I'm still new to suspension. Do I really need dust boots, because I went outside and took a walk around my car and every dust boot on every strut is torn completely off.

I wouldn't go KYB if you're getting an aggressive drop, I don't like ride. This was in another thread, but someone who had ridden in several of the possible combos, said KYB and Sprint were the worst. I have to agree (i have speedline springs: 1.8 all around) I'm going to go for Tokicos or Koni's when I get the cash, and upgrade to Intraxx springs... (better compression/ride/newer) just a thought.

amaxima, do you have any more pics of your drop? And what type of struts are you running right now.
davebond007, who sells the this setup. Are you talking about buying both sets and mixing them?
Does anyone know who sells the intrax springs?????

I did a quick search on Yahoo and found them cheaper than that. I don't know, I guess I might be better off sticking with the Sprint & St combo. It seems like I can save the most money that way and still get a decent ride.

I wouldnt mix the springs because they have different spring rates and the manufacture kind of designs them to be used on all 4 corners ![Wink](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I have eibachs and I love them, granted I can feel more bumps in the road, but the tokicos also are keeping those at bay. It's really not that bad though, I mean I bet if my dad drove it he would still think its abit more forgiving than his 5th gen going down the road.
I rode in Spipedong90's car with ST springs and it felt good too, there were 3 of us in the car, I wasn't really paying attention but the ride quality was nice.

I just think the max is too heavy of a car for really dropped springs and mediocre struts, we don't have a Civic where it makes but only a little difference... and I admit, speedline springs are what's really affecting my ride, since they are a bit poor quality and dated...
I do have a lowrider, unintentionally, so if that's what you're into, check out my cardomain (click on my sig pic). It's so low I can't get my oil changed at Jiggy Lube or use auto car washes... lol I can't even get my jack out from underneath, when I 'm done working on it...

so..... short story long,
when I redo my suspension, I'm getting Tokicos/Konis and Intraxx. If you really want a performant ride, then go with Konis and Eibachs -if you have the money, but you won't see much of a drop with Eibachs.

I have the st springs kyb combo, It's ok i guess. It depends on the street or road condition. Pot holes, bumps, etc. I live in newark,nj the roads are bad here. I would put the mounts and the boots I did. You figure putting new struts and springs, why not. Aslo remember to check your bushings and joints to see if there are in good condition. You don't want to put parts on and then find out that you bushings and joint are messed up.
