A couple ?'s regarding a 93 max.....

I'm looking at a blue '93 SE 5sp with 74k miles, asking $7500. Its in OK condition with a few minor scratches on the hood and a stain or 2 inside. It seems to run pretty strong(of course, not as strong as my '96 SE 5sp:-)). However, the steering seems very tight, probably tighter than I've ever felt before. Is that normal with those years? I've had an '86, '90, and '96, and none of them felt that tight.
Also, I've heard about the VTC problems with the '92 and '93 SEs. Is there any way I can tell if this is going to be a problem?
How does the manual tranny hold up in the '93's?
Finally, do the '93 have that same flex exhaust pipe below the manifold that the '90's had? I think most had to replace it, I know I did, and I don't want to have to worry about that again on this one.
Basically what I'm looking for is a 3-4 year car that won't give me headaches or major repair bills. Obviously, my experience with Maximas has been generally positive, but I'm not to familiar with the '92-'93s. I had a couple friends who had them and they had engine problems related to the VTC.
Any help or suggestions you can provide I would greatly appreciate.

my 93 se's steering is pretty stiff, I think that does go along with all those of the same. The 5spd tranny should hold up just fine, which is a damn shame that I have an automatic. As far as VTC's go, it's not like my car is that fast anyways to worry about it. If you have a 96 5spd, why would you want a 3gen anyways, I would reconsider..but at least you're getting a 5spd.
