Offset Question

Can any of you guys tell me what offset would be needed for 235/45/17 tires on a 17 x 8 rim? Oh, and i'm on st springs 1.6" drop.
i'm looking to buy rims/tires off a 4th gen guy but i'm afraid they'll rub. i had the 2k3 wheels with 225 tires on them and they were a hair away from rubbing.

hopefully this guy will have the offset i need or i ain't buying the wheels.

I don't know about 8" wide wheels but 17x7 +40 offset with 235 will fit nice and snug like a bug in a rub and no rubbing. And that's with Eibach springs. Haven't had a chance to bolt on these wheels with my current Sprint's. You might hear 235's shouldn't be put on 7" wide wheels but all the members who have used 235's on 7" wheels and never had a problem including myself.

hey mike,
if it was 17 x 7 the 235 tires would bulge out the side of the rims, no?
i don't like the way the bulging sidewalls look. i had 225 on the 4th gen 5 spokes and it looked like A$$.

Well that's the sore topic I'm refering to, and since it has been beaten to death there's no need to go into another debate. To answer your question about would it bulge, my answer is no. I can only answer your question from my hands on experience and not from what others are saying. I've read some of those threads in the 5th gen forums and all the guys who are using 235's with 7" wheels have yet to change anything or complain about anytthing. Go figure

i'm going to meet the guy selling the rims and see for myself how the tires look.
they are really good summer tires so i might go for it as long as they fit with no rubbing.

With your wheel specs (same as Mustang), you really should get something with +35 to +30. This is based on lots and lots of evidence so it's quite solid. Good luck.
