engine

Sry if this is an annoying post. We recently bought a 92 se kind of as a parts car. The previous owner said one day the engine started making a weird noise, they never found out what was wrong so he drove it till it died. I havent been around these forums much and i cant remember what the common problems are with these engines. Its a really nice car, 5spd with black leather. It would be worth it to me to spend some money on it. Im a senior in hight school and i have a couple of friends that take automechanics twice a day. I figure since the car is just sitting next to my house i might as well let them take the engine out and tear it down.

I just want to know if its worth it for them to try and rebuild the engine an what it would cost if this is even a reasonable ideah. Or should i just buy a new engine. Im not familiar with the VG30DE and the search isnt up. So if anyone can fill me in on whats wrong with the engine and lend me their knowledge and opionions on what i should do,i would appreciate it thnx

well a new engine is almost $4000 dollers from nissan. You can find a rebuild kit for about $600 give or take. A common problem with these cars are the fuel injectors. You can find the injectors for about $100 a piece. It would be worth it for you to rebuild the engine if that is the problem. Well good luck.

first off if you have a 92 se then you have the VE30DE engine the gxe had the vg30e. NOT DE the DE was in the 300zx. Some common problems are the vtc's, injectors, coil packs, exhaust manifold stud breaking, ect.... a junkyard VE should run you from 500-1500 bucks a rebuild one will be from 2k-4k - rebuilding that one given the timing chain hasnt snapped or anything major hasnt broken the rebuild kit as said before is about 600 or so. Is it worth it for a 5spd VE ? heck yea. its the most sought after 3rd gen made especially with black leather. (thats why i have a 5spd VE) its a great car !!!!!!!

Talk to the auto mechanics teacher and see if they'd swap the engine out as a learning experience. You buy the engine, they do the (free) labor....As long as it's supervised, things should go OK.

to rebiuld a ve will cost alot more than 600 just in parts trust me i looked into it. the gasket set alone is around 300

much more cost efective to get a used engine like said already.

i bought a JDM VE30DE for my 92se for 1200$ including shipping in the end i spend around 2000$ because i replace a sh*t load of parts on it. was it worth it? well acording to my smokingmustangsOmeter HELL YEAH IT WAS
