thermostat problem

I have only had my 91 max for a few months and it has always taken the car forever to heat up, so I thought the thermeostat was stuck open, I went to change out the thermostat today and the spring part of the old thermostat was facing out of the engine. The picture in the manual that I have shows the spring side facing into the engine. Which way is correct? If someone had put this one in backwards would be causing my problem?

i have a 91 also and mine was facing out too. this is the only way it goes on. the new t stat fixed my heating problems.

don't forget to jack the front of the car up 3 feet and purge all the air out of the cooling system. takes all of a 1/2 hour too. have fun and bring beer to pass the time.

Thanks, I changed out the thermostat and the car seemed to warm up faster, but I had no heat at all, so I jacked it up as far as I could and sure enough after about 30 min, I got heat back, everything works great and I think this fixed my problem
