Hey everyone, I recently picked up a '92 Maxima SE 5spd and I love it. One slight problem, recently I've been smelling gas coming through the vents, and I've noticed that gas mileage has dropped significantly. Does anyone have ideas of what it could be? Any and all responses are welcome. Thanks

 

check around the rubber gas hoses..you probably have a leak. get yourself some new clamps and 5/16 fuel injection hose and go to town.

 

Yeah, I have to fix mine too. I just started smell a slight gas odor myself, but I don't know how long I had the problem because I always drive with the windows down.

 

Also check the hoses that lead to the fuel rail. I had to get mine changed.

those rubber hoses that connect to the fuel rail usually leak when it gets cold outside. im in the process of changing mine right now actually. i dont remember what size hose i used but im pretty sure danny was right with the 5/16. make sure its a hose for fuel, the handle more pressure.

 

Thanks for all of the replies. I'll look into it tommorow. I thought it was my plugs or wires. But it only started after the temperature dropped into the teens

 

my max smells like gas cuz I got a hole in the tank :-)

 

check the gas return line, that was my problem. could be a leaky injector.

 

it could maybee be the fuel pressre reg.. it happnes to me every day cause when i push the pedal down alll the gas comes out and BURNS,, and my gas mil. sucks around 280 a tank

same as me, i average 280 when i fill up. although there is still about 2 gallons left in the tank.

and this is driving in the hampton roads area. too many stoplights for me.

 

I get anywhere from 130-350 per tank..if its nice out and I don't accelerate like an old person, it leans toward the 130..nothing wrong with the max, lead foot=empty tank with any gas or diesel powered engine..

 

don't know what's wrong with it yet, to dam cold to figure it out.
