Leaky Power Moonroof on 92 GXE...help!

Sup all...

Have a little problem. Sometimes, my moonroof leaks after a nice carwash. It's pretty strange, because it rarely does it after it rains. When I am driving, I can hear the wind like the moonroof is open. I can push up on it, and can't hear the wind, but when I let off, I can hear it like drop down a little, and then I can hear the wind blowing again...

Any suggestions???

The nice thing about a power moonroof is that it should never leak...RIGHT! This is one thing I work on alot. Your moonroof has a metal tub that all of your tracks and drive cables are housed. The rear of this tub has two drain tubes. These run down the body behind the qtr glass and drain out you wheel wells. The same goes for the front. The seal around the glass is just for Air Deflection. There will always be a little noise from the gasket.

Now that we know the anatomy this is what to look for.
1) first open the sunroof all the way. Look to the front corners for a small hole, about 3/8 in. Look for any debris in the hole, such as leaves or dirt. If there are no visable clogs pour a small amount of water down them. This should drain straight out. If this is slow you need to blow them out. With compressed air blow through the hole watch for stuff to come out bottom. Retest, if it still backs up you have a bad clog or a pinched tube.
2)The next is to check the gasket around the glass. In a rare case This can get torn. Usually this is in the front corner of the roof. The front wind deflector that comes up when you open the roof can tear it if it is loose or bent. The bad news is that the gasket is NOT replacable!! The only way to get one is with the glass. The glass for a moonroof can be as much as $900, depending on car.
3)The last could be at the rear the tubes are plugged this is bad too. You have to remove your headliner to check them and blow them out.

As far as the roof sagging, there are 4 bolts to hold the glass to the track. These are covered by plastic trim in most cases, 2 on each side. Before you adjust them made sure the motor is pushing all the way forward. Be very careful adjusting the roof glass it is laminated glass (like windsheilds) if you put it in a bind it can crack. The roof should not stick up beyond flush with the roof panel.

Good luck hope this helps!

I had the same problem with the noise (not the leak though, luckily). Last week I added some spacers between the glass and the mounting bracked toward the back. I'm pretty sure that the dealer can do the same thing. Mine already had three spacers on the passenger side, and two on the drivers side. I work at a machine shop so I just made a few copies of the spacer and put them in. Worked great.

I've even seen the 2 cent shim! 2 Pennies!!! Don't do that!!!!!! You can break the glass when you tighten bolts. Dealers should have shims. If not check Sunroof shops. We stock lots, they come in different thickness.
